Cary 311 Expands Services with Text Messaging and Storm Support

Cary 311 continues to serve as the go-to contact point for residents seeking help with town services, including water issues, trash pickup, and code enforcement. The service now supports text messaging, offering a faster and more convenient way to reach the town during normal business hours.

With hurricane season underway, officials are reminding residents to use 311 for non-emergency concerns like storm debris and flooding, reserving 911 for urgent threats. The system allows Cary staff to track and respond to thousands of service requests in real time, even during major weather events.

Residents can further enhance their preparedness by signing up for Wake County’s ReadyWake alerts and downloading the FEMA app. Both tools offer critical updates and planning resources during emergencies.

The Town of Cary continues to prioritize clear communication and responsive service, aiming to keep residents informed, safe, and connected all year round.

Trees and Wildlife Top Open Space Concerns

A majority of Cary Spotlight readers say protecting forests and natural habitats should be the top priority for open space planning. In a recent poll, 66% of respondents selected this option as their main concern, far outpacing support for other topics.

Water quality and stream protection came in a distant second, while issues like recreation, cultural site preservation, and climate goals received minimal backing. Reader comments underscored a deep concern with development-related tree loss and its impact on local wildlife.

Even readers who supported a broader view acknowledged that forest preservation should lead the conversation. Some referenced long-term residency in Cary and expressed frustration with rapid development displacing both natural spaces and native animals.

These results suggest a clear direction for community events, advocacy, and planning: prioritize the preservation of Cary’s remaining forests and wildlife habitats.

The Answer to the Cary Spotlight Hook Trivia Question 👇👇👇
Aconcagua, located in the Andes Mountains of Argentina, is the highest mountain outside of Asia, standing at 6,961 meters (22,838 feet) above sea level. It is the tallest peak in both the Southern and Western Hemispheres and a major climbing destination for mountaineers around the world. Despite its height, Aconcagua is considered one of the more accessible "Seven Summits" because it doesn't require technical climbing on its normal route, though altitude and weather pose significant challenges.
