Art Swarm Festival
The Fine Arts League of Cary is set to open a permanent home in the historic Waldo House, now located at 110 E. Park Street. The grand opening event on September 3 will include a ribbon-cutting ceremony and refreshments, and will serve as the launch for Art Swarm, a multi-day celebration of visual arts.
Art Swarm, running September 3–7, brings together local and regional artists for live painting, hands-on workshops, and public art experiences. Events will take place across downtown Cary, including at the Cary Arts Center and the Waldo House itself. The public is invited to participate in free activities such as plein air painting*, artist meet-and-greets, and a sidewalk art sale.
The Waldo House, an 1870s Gothic Revival building originally built by Dr. S.P. Waldo, has been relocated and repurposed to serve as FALC’s base of operations. Supported by The Mayton, the new location offers expanded opportunities for arts programming and community engagement.
This initiative marks a major milestone for FALC, a nonprofit arts organization established in 1996. Leaders hope the new space will enhance the creative atmosphere of downtown Cary and foster broader participation in the arts.
*Plein air painting is the practice of creating finished artworks outdoors, in the open air, to capture the fleeting effects of natural light and atmosphere. The French phrase "en plein air" translates to "in the open air" and the style became fundamental to the Impressionist movement after the invention of portable paint tubes made it easier for artists to paint outside their studios.

Cary Crime Spree Ends in Teen Arrests
Early Tuesday morning, Cary police responded to reports of car break-ins at the Alta Ivy Apartments. Several cars were damaged, and two Kias were stolen in the process.
The thefts quickly escalated into two separate pursuits. The white Kia collided with a Honda in Apex, while the black Kia crashed near Crossroads Plaza in Cary before the driver ran from the scene and was apprehended. Residents and auto repair workers spent much of the day repairing broken windows and damage left behind at the apartment complex.
Authorities confirmed that all three suspects are under the age of 17. One teen sustained minor injuries and was treated at the hospital. Police said the boys each face a range of charges, including vehicle theft, breaking and entering, and fleeing from law enforcement.
Despite the crashes and damage, no bystanders were injured. Cary police continue to investigate the broader string of break-ins. Read Full Story
Open Space Plan Draft Open for Review
Cary is finalizing its Open Space Plan, a key initiative designed to guide how the town defines, protects, and manages open spaces. The plan emphasizes the value of open space for ecological preservation, recreation, cultural resources, and community well-being.
The plan builds upon the Imagine Cary Community Plan and integrates with related efforts such as the Bike Plan, Climate Action Strategy, Stormwater Master Plan, and Urban Forest Master Plan. Structured in three phases, the process has moved from analysis to vision-setting and is now in the recommendation and implementation stage.
The draft outlines five goals and 13 objectives, along with detailed action steps for both staff and community members. It also includes policy tools and an implementation matrix that highlights priorities and key partners. Oversight will be coordinated by the Urban Forester, with support from departments such as Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources, Utilities, Public Works, and Stormwater.
Public engagement has been extensive, involving workshops, focus groups, surveys, and participation at local events. More opportunities remain, including staff engagement at Lazy Daze later this month and an online feedback form open through September 28. Learn more about the Open Space Plan

The Answer to the Cary Spotlight Hook Trivia Question 👇👇👇
Maine is the only U.S. state with a one-syllable name, making it unique among the 50 states. Located in the northeasternmost corner of the country, Maine is known for its rugged coastline, scenic lighthouses, dense forests, and maritime history. It’s also famous for its delicious lobster and wild blueberries. The origin of its name is uncertain, but many believe it was named "Maine" to distinguish the mainland from the surrounding islands.
