Earth Day 2026 Reflects Progress
Earth Day 2026 was observed Tuesday with the theme “Our Power, Our Planet,” continuing a tradition that began in 1970 as a grassroots effort to raise awareness about environmental issues. What started as a national movement has since grown into a global event, with more than one billion people participating in activities each year.
The movement has led to lasting policy changes in the United States, including the creation of the Environmental Protection Agency and the passage of major environmental laws such as the Clean Water Act and Clean Air Act. These measures marked significant steps toward improving air and water quality.
Despite that progress, challenges remain. The United States has faced hundreds of costly weather and climate disasters in recent decades, and temperatures continue to rise nationwide. Cities like Raleigh have seen notable increases, reflecting broader warming trends.
The day ultimately served as a reminder that while meaningful progress has been made, continued individual and collective action will be necessary to address long-term environmental changes. Read Full Story
