Wake County Teacher to Donate Kidney to Assistant Principal
Kristin Lundberg, a theater teacher at Fuquay-Varina Middle School in Wake County, is donating a kidney to Assistant Principal Ernest DeVane, who has been managing kidney disease while continuing his work at the school. After learning he needed a transplant, Lundberg immediately volunteered to be tested and turned out to be a match.
DeVane has continued working despite the challenges of dialysis, which is administered by his wife at home. He says the transplant will allow him to be more present with his family, including his teenage and young sons.
The surgeries are scheduled for the end of September. Lundberg expects to miss about a month of school, while DeVane plans to return in the spring. They are seeking donated leave from other educators and public employees to help cover recovery time.
The act has been met with admiration from students and staff, who view it as a moving example of compassion and friendship between colleagues.
Just curious…

Harvest Fest Brings Sustainable Fun to Good Hope Farm
Harvest Fest at Good Hope Farm is a twice-a-fall celebration designed to showcase local food systems and sustainable living on a historic organic working farm. The event centers on regenerative agriculture, with vendors and community groups sharing practices and products that support environmental stewardship.
Guests can take a guided tour of the farm to learn about its history and the methods used to restore soil and conserve resources. The grounds will feature a featured food truck, a local beer vendor, and live music, alongside ample space to relax in hammocks or around picnic tables. Children’s activities are free and include face painting and a bounce house, while artisans will sell crafts and lead hands-on, make-and-take art projects. Farm-fresh produce will be available for purchase.
Parking is off-site to preserve the farm. Visitors should use the satellite lot at Green Hope High School’s Student Parking Lot, 2500 Carpenter Upchurch Rd (Directions), and ride the free shuttle. For accessibility needs or general questions, attendees can email [email protected].
Overall, the festival blends education and entertainment, offering a welcoming space to shop, learn, and celebrate the season with the community.

The Answer to the Cary Spotlight Hook Trivia Question 👇👇👇
Antarctica has the highest average elevation of any continent, with an average height of about 2,500 meters (8,200 feet) above sea level. This is largely due to its thick ice sheets, which cover nearly the entire landmass and can reach over 4 kilometers deep in some places. Beneath the ice, the terrain includes high plateaus and mountain ranges like the Transantarctic Mountains. Despite its frozen landscape, Antarctica plays a vital role in regulating Earth’s climate and sea levels.
