Wake County Student Faces Charges After Gun Found on School Bus
A Wake County high school student has been charged after bringing a gun onto a school bus, raising concerns about gun safety and the presence of firearms in school environments.
The Raleigh Police Department initiated an investigation after the firearm was discovered on the bus, and juvenile petitions will be filed against the student in connection with the incident.
Authorities are using this event to remind residents to remove firearms from unattended vehicles and securely store them in their homes to prevent access by unauthorized individuals, particularly minors.
The police are taking measures to ensure similar incidents do not occur in the future. Read Full Story

Measles Case in NC Highlights Urgent Need for Childhood Vaccinations
North Carolinaβs first reported measles case of 2024 involves a child from Mecklenburg County who contracted the virus while traveling internationally.
The incident has raised alarm over the risks posed to unvaccinated children, particularly as vaccination rates in Wake and Durham counties fall below the 95% threshold needed to prevent outbreaks.
Experts note that the measles vaccine, first developed in the 1960s, is highly effective with two doses, but hesitancy and pandemic-related disruptions have led to a drop in immunization levels.
Health officials warn that measles can spread rapidly, with severe consequences for both children and vulnerable populations, and are urging parents to ensure their children are up to date on all required vaccinations.
Getting mumps as an adult can be very painful and can lead to sterility.

The Answer to the Cary Spotlight Hook Trivia Question πππ
Interestingly, no animal naturally has an odd number of whiskers. All animals with whiskers, which are highly sensitive tactile hairs known as vibrissae, have them in even numbers. Whiskers are typically symmetrically placed on each side of the face or body, providing balance and spatial awareness.
These specialized hairs help animals navigate their environment, detect nearby objects, and sense vibrations, making even placement essential for effective functionality.
For more information on animal whiskers and their functions, you can visit the National Geographic website, which provides insights into animal biology and behavior.
