Cut-A-Thon Raises $12,000 to Help 7-Year-Old Undergoing Cancer Treatment
Twisted Scizzors Salon's annual Cut-A-Thon, held on Sunday, September 8, went above and beyond its fundraising goal for 7-year-old Noelle Franklin, who is undergoing treatment for bone cancer at Duke Hospital.
The salonβs team donated their time and tips to support the Franklin family, completing 135 haircuts and raising $12,000 β surpassing the initial goal of $10,000.
For over 13 years, the Cary-based salon has hosted Cut-A-Thons, each time selecting a local child or family in need of financial assistance.
The outpouring of support from the Cary community has been extraordinary, with donations still being accepted to further aid the Franklin family during this challenging time. Donate
Egg Recall After Salmonella Outbreak Sickens 65, Hospitalizes 24
A Salmonella outbreak connected to recalled eggs has affected 65 people in nine states, resulting in 24 hospitalizations but no fatalities, according to the CDC.
The affected eggs, sourced from Miloβs Poultry Farms in Wisconsin, were distributed to stores and restaurants in Illinois, Michigan, and Wisconsin, though federal officials warn the eggs may have been shipped elsewhere.
The bacteria involved in the outbreak have shown resistance to key antibiotics, including nalidixic acid and ciprofloxacin, making treatment challenging.
Symptoms of infection typically include diarrhea, fever, and stomach cramps, with vulnerable groups such as children and the elderly more prone to severe illness.
Consumers are advised to discard or return the eggs and ensure proper sanitation of any surfaces they contacted. Federal agencies continue to monitor the situation. Read Full Report

The Answer to the Cary Spotlight Hook Trivia Questionπππ
Australia is the only continent without an active volcano. Unlike other continents, Australiaβs volcanic activity ceased millions of years ago, and it is now considered geologically stable in terms of volcanic activity.
The last known eruptions occurred thousands of years ago, and the continent has since remained free from active volcanic threats. This geological calm stands in contrast to other continents, which continue to experience eruptions from active volcanoes.
For more information about Australia's volcanic history and geology, you can visit Geoscience Australia's website.
