North Carolina Braces for Surge in Voter Turnout Amid Election Preparation
Election officials in North Carolina are gearing up for a busy presidential election season, with registered voters in the state now totaling over 7.5 million, a significant increase from last year.
In Mecklenburg County alone, officials expect the number of registered voters to rise to approximately 830,000, with a turnout of up to 75% anticipated.
Extensive preparations are being made, including securing early voting sites and training thousands of election workers. Despite recent changes to the Democratic presidential ticket, local election offices continue their preparations, with absentee ballots set to be mailed out starting September 6.
Voters are encouraged to check their registration status to ensure a smooth voting experience. Early voting begins on October 17, with the general election on November 5. Read Full Report

Boar’s Head Recalls Deli Meats Amid Deadly Listeria Outbreak
Boar’s Head Provisions Co. has recalled various deli meats after a liverwurst sample from a Maryland store tested positive for listeria, as health officials investigate an outbreak that has sickened 34 people and resulted in two deaths.
The USDA’s recall includes meats processed on the same line in a Virginia facility. The recall affects over 200,000 pounds of meats, including different types of bologna, salami, and ham, all with an August 10 sell-by date, and Steakhouse Roasted Bacon Heat and Eat with an August 15 sell-by date.
Consumers are advised to discard or return the products and clean their refrigerators to prevent contamination. The outbreak highlights the serious health risks posed by listeria, especially to vulnerable groups.
Olympic Surfing's Unique Solution: A Cruise Ship Village in Tahiti
In a groundbreaking move for the Summer Games, Olympic surfing is being held on the French Polynesian island of Tahiti this year. To accommodate the 48 surfers vying for gold, organizers introduced an innovative solution: a floating Olympic Village.
Anchored just a few miles from the competition site, the Aranui Five cruise ship serves as a unique residential facility, replacing the need for traditional on-land accommodations. This floating village not only provides convenience but also offers athletes a luxurious stay with amenities such as 24/7 buffets, personal rooms with ocean-view balconies, a gym, and a spa area for recovery.
The choice of a cruise ship over land-based housing stems from logistical challenges and the desire to offer athletes proximity to the waves. Some teams, like Team USA, have chosen to rent homes on the island, maintaining long-established routines and relationships with local families in Teahupo’o, a village renowned among surfers.
This innovative approach has sparked curiosity, especially regarding the comfort of the beds. Unlike the cardboard beds used in Paris's Olympic Village, the Aranui Five boasts comfortable metal beds, adding to the overall appeal of this unique floating village. Read Full Article

The Answer to the Cary Spotlight Hook Trivia Question 👇👇👇
In the 1960’s, tying on to Raleigh’s water and sewer system was a wise move. It enabled Cary to grow rapidly during a time when growth otherwise would have been stymied. As a result, Cary was able to afford its own water and sewage treatment plants much quicker than most people anticipated.
