Cary's Cookie Cutters Salon Vows Swift Return Following Holiday SUV Crash
Note from Editor: We break from our usual Local Business Spotlight format to amplify this message from a local Cary business struck by disaster. We are publishing their original FB message in its original form without edits or summary. We’ll be here to do a regular spotlight when they re-open.
Dear Friends of Cookie Cutters,
You may have heard the news that a car crashed into Cookie Cutters Haircuts for Kids in Cary on Christmas Eve. We are grateful to have closed the store that day to give our staff Christmas Eve with their families, and as a result, no staff, children or families were in the salon and no-one was hurt. Still, the damage to our small, family-owned business is severe and we will, sadly, be closed until further notice. We will reopen, and we’ll do so with all our might and as quickly as the process will allow.
We’ve been overwhelmed by the outpouring of support from our loyal customers, and that support has buoyed our spirits enormously. Our priorities are, first, to protect the income of the team members and their families that depend on Cookie Cutters and your business to live, and second, to re-open as quickly as possible so we can get back to serving you in the ways you need and have come to expect. We believe no one in our business does a better job serving the particular needs of our young customers, and we know many of you have tried many other options before finding a home with us. We’ll be back soon.
As we navigate the process to reopen and work to keep our team members secure, our most immediate ask is this… Please come back WHEN (not if) we reopen. Your business and loyalty means everything to us, and it breaks our hearts to be away from you for a while. We’ll make our time away as brief as possible. Keep our team in your thoughts and send prayers and good mojo as you’re inclined. Please also consider the unexpected concerns and questions that face the family of the driver who drove through our business. Like us, they have some difficult days ahead.
Thank you again for your support and concern. We’ll be praying for slow-growing hair and a speedy return!!
Sincerely,
Angela and Matt Murphy, Owners
on behalf our whole team and their families

North Carolina's Countdown to Legal Sports Betting: Final Stages in Sight
North Carolina is on the brink of introducing legal sports betting, having just reached an important application deadline for interested companies. The state anticipates that the required regulatory reviews will be completed by the end of February, although the Super Bowl may not see legal betting this year.
The target is to launch in time for March Madness, reflecting the significance of basketball in the state. Governor Cooper has expressed a keen interest in this timeline.
Major sportsbooks, along with smaller entities, are expected to dominate the new market, subject to strict compliance with state regulations. Some have already received approval for physical venues, and are now focusing on mobile app compliance. Read full story
