Hurricanes Move Within One Win of Stanley Cup

Credit: Downtown Cary Park
The Carolina Hurricanes entered Game 5 of the Stanley Cup Final with a chance to seize control of the series against the Vegas Golden Knights. The matchup came after a tightly contested four-game stretch in which Carolina answered losses in Games 1 and 3 with victories to keep the series even.
Momentum favored the Hurricanes after their Game 4 win on the road, highlighted by leadership from captain Jordan Staal and a strong finish that included an empty-net goal. The result shifted pressure onto Vegas heading into the return to Raleigh.
Goaltending remained one of the biggest questions before puck drop. Brandon Bussi, a rookie who replaced Frederik Andersen late in Game 3, impressed in his first playoff start and gave the Hurricanes another option in net. Head coach Rod Brind'Amour declined to reveal his starter ahead of the game.
Backed by a sold-out crowd at Lenovo Center, Carolina secured the Game 5 victory and now sits one win away from capturing the Stanley Cup.
How to watch the next game
Downtown Cary Park will host Cary for the Cup at the Great Lawn Pavilion, inviting fans to watch the Hurricanes on the big screen.
Attendees are encouraged to wear red and black and cheer on the team during the watch parties.
The schedule includes events at 8 p.m. on Sunday, June 14. Another watch party is planned for Wednesday, June 17, at 8 p.m., depending on the playoff series standings.
Just curious…
The Hurricanes are now one win away from the Stanley Cup. How confident are you that Carolina will finish the job?
Cary Opens Recruitment for Community Advisory Positions

Cary residents have an opportunity to help shape the town's future through service on Council-appointed boards, commissions, and committees. Applications are now open for volunteer positions that provide guidance and recommendations on issues affecting the community.
These groups play a key role in advising the Town Council and offering resident perspectives on a range of topics. Community members with an interest in local government, public service, or a specific area of expertise are encouraged to apply.
Applications submitted by June 30, 2026, will be considered for appointments made in 2026. Most appointments are for three-year terms, although some may fill unexpired vacancies.
To be eligible, volunteers must live within Cary's corporate limits or, when applicable, within Cary's Extraterritorial Jurisdiction. Current Town of Cary employees are not eligible. Appointed members are required to review and sign the town's ethics and conflict-of-interest guidelines and become familiar with board operating procedures. In addition to formal boards and commissions, the town may periodically create working groups to help staff address specific projects and initiatives.
