Caniacs Pack RDU to Welcome Hurricanes Home After Game 4 Victory
The Carolina Hurricanes returned to Raleigh on Wednesday with momentum on their side after a 5-3 victory over the Vegas Golden Knights in Game 4 of the Stanley Cup Final, evening the series at two games apiece.
Dozens of fans gathered at Raleigh-Durham International Airport to welcome the team home. Wearing Hurricanes jerseys and carrying signs and memorabilia, supporters lined up to greet the players following their flight from Las Vegas.
The excitement reflected growing confidence among the fan base as the series shifts back to Raleigh. Some supporters arriving on separate flights from Las Vegas rushed across the airport to make sure they were present for the team's arrival.
The welcome began even before the Hurricanes landed. Fans watching from RDU's observation area spotted the Golden Knights arriving first and greeted them with boos before turning their attention to cheering for Carolina.
The Hurricanes will host Game 5 on Thursday night at Lenovo Center. With the Stanley Cup Final now tied, fans are expecting an energized atmosphere as the series enters a pivotal stretch.

Dangerous Heat Arrives as Temperatures Near 100 Degrees

Credit: WRAL
Central North Carolina is entering its hottest stretch of the year so far, with temperatures expected to climb into the upper 90s and near 100 degrees on Thursday and Friday.
The combination of heat and humidity will push heat index values to around 105 degrees, creating potentially dangerous conditions for anyone spending extended time outdoors. Forecasters have designated Thursday as a Weather Alert Day because of the heat and the possibility of isolated evening storms.
Residents attending outdoor activities, including Stanley Cup Final watch parties and tailgates, should take extra precautions to stay cool and hydrated. While storm chances remain limited, any thunderstorms that form could become strong due to the extreme heat.
The hot pattern is expected to persist through the weekend, with highs remaining in the 90s and only small chances for isolated rainfall.
How do you handle days when the heat index tops 100 degrees?
- 🥤 Stay Hydrated Indoors – I'm avoiding the heat as much as possible.
- 🏊 Find Water Fast – Pool, lake, splash pad, anything works.
- 🌳 Early Bird Strategy – Outdoor activities only before the heat peaks.
- 😎 Business as Usual – The heat doesn't slow me down.
- 🔥 Bring on Summer – The hotter, the better.
