Question: Belmopan is the capital of which country?

(Answer at the bottom of the newsletter.)

Parents across Wake County often wonder how their teens can build a creative portfolio that stands out when applying to college.

The 16th Annual Wake County Teen Art Exhibition in Cary is designed to give student artists exactly that opportunity. The exhibition displays work from students across roughly 50 Wake County schools in a real, professionally curated gallery setting - the kind of experience students can list on a resume or college application. The exhibition runs May 6-27, 2026. The community is welcome to attend.

Just curious…

How Cary Cut Water Use by More Than 30 Percent

Cary began its formal water conservation program in 1996 as rapid growth and widespread lawn irrigation increased demand on the town’s water system. The goal was to reduce daily water use per person by 20 percent within 20 years while maintaining reliable service and protecting natural resources.

The town reached that goal in 2013, two years early, and continued improving, with per capita water use down more than 30 percent by 2023. Cary’s approach included regulations, education campaigns, rebates, tiered rates, irrigation standards, and smart water meters.

Major droughts in the early 2000s tested the program and helped reinforce water-saving habits across the community. They also encouraged regional cooperation and planning among Triangle communities.

Today, Cary says conservation remains central to its environmental stewardship efforts. Residents are encouraged to monitor their water use, repair leaks, use efficient irrigation practices, and choose WaterSense-labeled products. Learn more here
