Question: What is the only spice native to all 48 contiguous U.S. states?
(Answer at the bottom of the newsletter.)

Parents across Wake County often wonder how their teens can build a creative portfolio that stands out when applying to college.
The 16th Annual Wake County Teen Art Exhibition in Cary is designed to give student artists exactly that opportunity. The exhibition displays work from students across roughly 50 Wake County schools in a real, professionally curated gallery setting - the kind of experience students can list on a resume or college application. The exhibition runs May 6-27, 2026.
The community is welcome to attend the free public reception and awards ceremony on May 10, where $20,000 in prizes will be awarded to students and their schools. Coming soon: May 10, 2026.

Alright… time to settle it 👇
Yesterday’s question:
“People complain about it all week, but still go every Saturday morning. What is it?”
Answer:
The Trader Joe’s / Waverly / weekend Cary parking lot 😅
(You know the one…)
Some of you said Costco… also acceptable.

What made this one fun is how Cary-specific it is.
Everyone complains about it…
and yet… we all still go.
That’s Cary in a nutshell.
We’ll drop another one next Sunday.

The Answer to the Cary Spotlight Hook Trivia Question 👇👇👇
A: Sumac
Sumac (specifically Smooth Sumac, Rhus glabra) is widely considered the only spice native to all 48 contiguous U.S. states. Known for its tart, lemon-like flavor, it is commonly used in indigenous North American cuisine and as a foraged seasoning. Often used as a bright red, dried, and ground seasoning to add tartness to savory dishes, meats, salads, and beverages.
