Cary Weighs Housing Strategy as Budget Pressure Builds
The Cary Town Council’s April 30 meeting combined ceremonial recognitions with early-stage decisions that will shape the town’s budget and housing strategy in the months ahead.
The meeting opened with a series of proclamations highlighting community priorities. Council members recognized Autism Awareness Month, emphasizing the importance of inclusion and understanding. Additional proclamations marked Child Abuse Prevention Month, Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, and Historic Preservation Month, reflecting a continued focus on public awareness, cultural recognition, and community identity.
Beyond the ceremonial items, attention turned to public input and upcoming budget decisions. A speaker raised concerns about affordability, particularly the impact of taxes on residents with fixed incomes. The comments come as town staff finalize the budget proposal, which is scheduled for presentation in mid-May.
The council approved its consent agenda unanimously, including funding for property acquisition, allocation of opioid settlement funds, a municipal service district petition, and a regional planning budget amendment. These items, while routine, support ongoing growth, infrastructure coordination, and public health initiatives.
The most substantial discussion centered on the town’s draft Community Development Block Grant plan for 2026 and 2027. The plan outlines how federal funds will be used to support housing initiatives, including expanding housing options, preserving affordability, assisting residents facing housing instability, and strengthening nonprofit partners. The proposal reflects months of public engagement and must be submitted to the federal government by May 15.
While no major votes reshaped policy during the meeting, the decisions and discussions signal where the council’s focus is heading. Housing affordability, budget pressures, and community investment remain central as Cary prepares for its next round of decisions.
What should Cary prioritize in the upcoming budget?
Finally, Skincare That Boosts NAD+ At the Source
For decades, skincare has focused on aesthetic results. But we started by asking a different question: what if instead of trying to preserve our skin's youth, we prioritized optimizing our skin's function? That's how Aramore’s NAD+ skincare was born.
Developed by Harvard & MIT scientists, Aramore is a skincare system based on skin’s performance, not just its appearance. NAD+ production slows down significantly as we age, and this causes all the telltale science of aging.
Aramore is the only skincare formulated to help skin produce NAD+ like much younger skin would. The result? Skin that’s stronger, firmer, and more resilient, that not only looks better, but stays healthier over time.

Cary Readers Sound Off on Vehicle Break-Ins
From Cary Spotlight Issue #920
🚗 Reader Poll Results: How Concerned Are You About Vehicle Break-Ins in Business Areas?
When Cary Spotlight shared news of a string of vehicle break-ins at Woodlake Center — a business park on Innovation Avenue home to an Amazon warehouse, a furniture center, and a Spectrum operations hub — readers had a lot of feelings. Cary police are investigating the incident, in which five vehicles were targeted, and are seeking two youths seen in released photos.
We asked readers how worried they are about this kind of crime hitting business areas. The answer? Overwhelmingly: very.
🏆 The Clear Winner:
"Very concerned — it could happen anywhere" ran away with this one, capturing 71.05% of the vote.
📊 How the rest stacked up:
🟠 Somewhat concerned — but not surprised — est. ~21%*
🚗 Not too concerned — seems isolated — est. ~5%*
📍 Depends on the area and time of day — est. ~3%*
❓ Not sure / need more information — est. ~0%*
💬 What readers had to say:
"It has happened numerous times in and around us."
"We've had it happen in the Springbrooke neighborhood in Cary which is off Evans Rd & Thorpe Rd as well."
"Something needs to be done about repeat offenders."
The comments tell a story beyond the poll: for many readers, this isn't a distant concern — it's something they've already lived. Several noted that break-ins have reached into residential neighborhoods, too, suggesting that what starts in a business park doesn't always stay there. As Cary police continue their investigation, readers are clearly watching — and hoping for accountability.
Where Cary Stands on the Pineapple Pizza Debate
From Cary Spotlight Issue #850
🍕🍍 Reader Poll Results: Pineapple on Pizza — Yes or No?
Just for fun, we asked Cary Spotlight readers to weigh in on one of the great culinary debates of our time — and it turns out, the Cary community has opinions. Cary Spotlight readers cast their votes, and while the anti-pineapple camp claimed victory, the results were closer than the purists might have hoped.
🏆 The Winner (for the pizza traditionalists):
"No — keep fruit off my pizza!" topped the poll with 46% of the vote . The anti-pineapple crowd showed up, but they didn't exactly run away with it.
📊 How the rest stacked up:
🍍 Yes — pineapple belongs on pizza! — est. ~30%*
🍖 Only if it's with ham (Hawaiian style) — est. ~14%*
😐 I'll eat it, but it's not my first choice — est. ~10%*
Nearly a third of readers are full pineapple believers, and when you combine the "Yes" and "Hawaiian style" camps, pineapple's fan club actually outnumbers the opposition. The "no" crowd may have won the poll — but the sweet and savory fans aren't going quietly. The great Cary pizza debate continues. 🍕

The Answer to the Cary Spotlight Hook Trivia Question 👇👇👇
A) Seeds
Navel oranges are primarily known for missing seeds. Because of a natural genetic mutation that occurred in the 1800s, navel oranges are seedless and are technically sterile, meaning they cannot reproduce on their own. The "Navel", the mark on the bottom is actually a small, underdeveloped "twin" fruit that grows inside the main orange.
Because they lack seeds, all navel oranges are clones propagated by cutting and grafting.
