Cary’s 25th Annual Children’s Day Festival
The Children’s Day Festival of Cary returns for its 25th year on April 18, 2026 (Today!) , with programming scheduled from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Downtown Cary Park. The event is free and open to the public, making it an accessible option for families across the region.
Inspired by Turkey’s national Children’s Day, the festival is organized by the American Turkish Association of North Carolina and focuses on celebrating children while promoting cultural awareness. It offers a local version of an international tradition centered on youth and community.
The event will feature international music and dance performances by children, along with hands-on crafts and interactive activities that encourage participation from attendees of all ages. The programming is designed to be both engaging and educational.
Organizers emphasize that parents and guardians must stay with their children during the event. The park also provides inclusion services to help ensure a welcoming experience for all visitors.

Faith, Family, and a Bunny on a Leash
🌟 Reader Poll Results: Even in Tough Times, What Gives You the Most Hope?
Just for fun — and a little soul-searching | Cary Spotlight Issue #901
The news cycle has been a lot lately. So we asked Cary readers to tell us what's keeping them going — and the results were a genuine reminder of what makes this community tick.

Faith came out on top in a decisive way: My faith and spiritual life earned 35.42% of the vote, the only option to clear the bar by a wide margin. It wasn't even close.
Rounding out the top responses:
🐾 My family, friends, and pets — a strong second place (~19%)
🌿 Getting outside — nature always delivers — a close third (estimated ~15%)
🏘️ My neighbors and local community — solid mid-pack support (estimated ~8%)
🌱 Young people stepping up and getting involved — tied for similar support
😄 Honestly? Humor. Gotta laugh through it. — because sometimes laughter really is the medicine
🔬 Science, technology, and innovation and 🏛️ Local government doing right by residents — drew modest but present support
Representative Reader Comments:
"I love our greenways! So peaceful! I love seeing the young kids on their bikes with their parents, enjoying the good weather, being outdoors instead of playing video games! I love seeing people walking their dogs — especially when their dog wants me to pet them!! Once I saw a woman pushing a carriage; she stopped for a few minutes, put a leash on the bunny and started walking it on a leash!! That was a first!"
"Voting in November."
—————————————————————————————-
The results are a snapshot of a community that finds hope in the personal and the present — faith, family, fur babies, and fresh air on the greenway. And woven through many responses was something quieter but just as real: a sense that people are paying closer attention, showing up, and choosing to believe things can get better. Whether that looks like casting a ballot, walking a bunny on a leash on the greenway, or simply holding onto faith — Cary readers aren't giving up. Not even close.
⚠️ The bunny on a leash may be the most Cary thing we've ever heard.
What Do Cary Residents Want From 311
From Cary Spotlight Issue #886
📞 Reader Poll Results: What Would You Most Want to Access Through Cary 311?
Just for fun — and a little civic curiosity
Cary's 311 service puts town services one call (or click) away — but what do residents actually want at their fingertips? We asked, and readers made their priorities crystal clear.
It wasn't close: Report infrastructure issues (sidewalks, traffic signals) ran away with the poll at 65.38% of the vote. Cary readers want potholes fixed, signals working, and sidewalks safe — and they want to be able to report problems fast.
The remaining responses were more evenly spread:
💬 Ask questions or share feedback with the town — second place (estimated ~11–12%)
💧 Pay utility bills or manage accounts — solid support (estimated ~8%)
🌳 Parks and recreation programs — close behind (estimated ~8%)
📋 Permits and town information — modest interest (estimated ~4%)
📦 Other (please specify) — a handful of responses, including some practical ones worth noting
Representative Reader Comments:
"I've used this service and it is all the video says! Thank you for the information — I learned a lot."
"Oversized trash. Like a mattress or a grill. Street obstructions like potholes."
Just curious…

The Answer to the Cary Spotlight Hook Trivia Question 👇👇👇
A) Endling
The term for the last known individual of a species or subspecies is an endling. When an endling dies, the species officially becomes extinct. Coined in the mid-1990s, this term represents the final, often solitary, member of its kind. Famous examples include Martha (passenger pigeon) and "Lonesome George" (Pinta Island tortoise).
Endlings are often kept in captivity or known to scientists, making their death a documented moment of finality.
