Question: What does Amoco stand for?

(Answer at the bottom of the newsletter.)

Parents across the Triangle often wonder how their teens can build meaningful leadership experience that truly stands out when applying to college.

An upcoming Hum Sub Youth Leadership Summit in Cary is designed to help students begin exploring those opportunities. The event invites students in Grades 8–11 from across the Triangle to learn about leadership, entrepreneurship, and ways young people can start building experiences that colleges value.

Bands, Bites, and Boats Returns to Bond Park

If you're looking for a fun way to kick off your weekend, Bands, Bites, and Boats at Bond Park is exactly the kind of Friday evening Cary does best. Once a month from April through October, the Bond Park Boathouse transforms into an outdoor music and food gathering right on the shore of Bond Lake.

The April 3 kickoff runs from 5:00 to 7:00 PM and features the musical duo Brian & Cheyenne, whose sound is the perfect match for a relaxed lakeside evening. Whether you're a longtime Cary resident or still getting to know the area, this event is a great reason to get outside and enjoy the season.

The food lineup for the April event is hard to beat. Mr. Puebla Tacos and Hot Chix Chicken and Pancakes will be on-site serving up some seriously good bites, while Fortnight Brewing Company brings the local craft brews. After-hours boat rentals also make this event something truly special — you can grab a kayak, canoe, rowboat, or pedal boat and float out on Bond Lake while you take in the music from the water. It's a one-of-a-kind experience you won't find anywhere else in the Triangle.

Prefer to stay on solid ground? No problem. Bring a lawn chair, round up the family or some friends, and settle in along the shore. The event is completely free to attend, and the Boathouse is nestled inside Fred G. Bond Metro Park, so there's plenty of open green space to spread out and relax.

The Town of Cary has also made the event eco-friendly — all food service ware from vendors is compostable or recyclable, and volunteers are on hand to help guests sort their waste properly. It's a small detail that says a lot about how thoughtfully this event is put together.

Burn Ban Expands in Wake County

Wake County officials have enacted a countywide burn ban following the statewide ban issued March 28 as dry conditions continue to raise wildfire concerns across North Carolina.

The local order strengthens the statewide restrictions by extending protections to areas within 100 feet of occupied structures. Officials say the added measure is intended to reduce the risk of accidental fires during a period of unusually dry weather.

The ban prohibits burning leaves, branches, and other vegetation, along with campfires, fire pits, outdoor fireplaces, burning barrels, fireworks, and other pyrotechnics.

County officials say the ban will remain in effect until further notice while weather conditions are monitored. Residents are encouraged to take extra precautions and avoid any activity that could spark a fire.

RDU Parking Rates Increasing April 13

Raleigh-Durham International Airport will raise parking prices beginning April 13 as part of a broader effort to fund airport expansion projects.

The increases will vary by parking lot, with Economy 3 rising to $14.50 per day, Express increasing to $18.50, Central Parking reaching $22.75, and Premier parking climbing to $34 per day.

Airport officials say the new rates are necessary to support additional parking capacity and infrastructure improvements as passenger traffic continues to grow at RDU.

The changes come after the RDU Authority Board approved a $514 million budget for the new fiscal year, including $325 million dedicated to capital projects such as a new runway, terminal-area expansion, and traffic improvements along John Brantley Boulevard.
