Parents across the Triangle often wonder how their teens can build meaningful leadership experience that truly stands out when applying to college.
An upcoming Hum Sub Youth Leadership Summit in Cary is designed to help students begin exploring those opportunities. The event invites students in Grades 8–11 from across the Triangle to learn about leadership, entrepreneurship, and ways young people can start building experiences that colleges value.

Duke Survives St. John’s Comeback Battle in Sweet 16 Thriller
Duke advanced to the Elite Eight after outlasting St. John’s in a Sweet 16 game that was far more offensive and dramatic than expected. Instead of the defensive battle many anticipated, both teams traded shots all night, with St. John’s especially dangerous from 3-point range.
The Red Storm built real pressure on Duke by taking a double-digit lead in the second half, thanks in part to an unusually strong perimeter performance. But Duke responded with the poise it has shown in close games all season, slowly regaining control on both ends of the floor.
A major reason was Caleb Foster, who returned after a broken foot and gave Duke a critical burst with seven straight second-half points. Isaiah Evans was equally important, finishing with 25 points and delivering several of the game’s biggest shots in the final minutes.
St. John’s had enough offense to make the game unforgettable, but not enough late scoring to close it out. Duke’s balance, defensive adjustment and composure in the final possessions were enough to seal the win and keep its title hopes alive.

Unrolling the Truth: Cary Readers Take a Stand
IIn this delightfully divisive "just for fun" poll, readers were asked to weigh in on one of humanity's oldest bathroom battlegrounds — over or under? The results weren't even close at the top, but the comments revealed just how passionately Cary residents feel about the proper orientation of a toilet paper roll.

🏆 Leading Response: B-Over (the paper comes over the top) — 71.11%
📊 Full Breakdown:
B — Over (the paper comes over the top): 71.11%
A — Under (the paper comes from behind the roll): 28.89%
Team "Over" won decisively, with nearly three-quarters of readers preferring the paper to drape over the front of the roll. The "Under" camp put up a respectable showing, but it wasn't enough to overcome the over-the-top majority.
A quick note: The poll image had the A and B labels switched visually, but the written descriptions of each choice were correct — a few sharp-eyed readers noticed!
Representative Reader Comments:
"Over the top prevents dirty fingers from touching the wall or cabinet."
"Look at the patent for guidance on the intended direction, lol!"
"Good to see that there's a sensible majority here......"
"I didn't really care or notice until my wife let her preference be known in no uncertain terms. lol. Now, I routinely ensure it is over the top."
Research Note: The original 1891 patent by Seth Wheeler for toilet paper with perforated sheets indicates that the proper orientation is over the roll, with the paper hanging in front.
This "over" position allows for easier access, reduces the risk of brushing against the wall, and displays the paper as intended. Reference: Toilet Paper Orientation
Paving the Way: Cary Readers Weigh In on Greenway Upgrades
From Cary Spotlight | Issue #879 March 20, 2026
Cary's beloved greenway system is getting some attention — and readers have clear ideas about what matters most. With 29 votes cast, one priority pulled well ahead of the pack.
🏆 Leading Response: Smarter planning for future greenway upgrades — 44.83%
📊 Full Breakdown:
Smarter planning for future greenway upgrades: 44.83%
Safer navigation around curves and underpasses: ~34%
Artistic centerline striping for better visibility: ~7%
More data on trail usage and peak times: ~7%
Other (please specify): ~7%
Nearly half of readers want the town thinking longer-term about greenway investment, while a strong showing for safer navigation suggests safety concerns aren't far behind.
Representative Reader Comments:
"I think the yellow centerline on the greenway curves will help but the white 'artistic' painting is just really ugly and takes away from the importance and purpose of the yellow centerline. Just my opinion."
"Please help keep snakes away from these popular trails. This is not safe whatsoever. Township always ignored this." (voted Other)
"All the above." (voted Other)

A) Men
Androphobia is an intense, irrational, and persistent fear of men, classified as a specific social phobia. Individuals with this condition may experience extreme anxiety, panic attacks, and avoidance behaviors around men, often stemming from past trauma, abuse, or negative experiences.
