WakeMed, UNC Health Earn Top Maternity Care Honors

U.S. News & World Report has named multiple Triangle hospitals among the best in the country for maternity care. WakeMed Cary, WakeMed North, and WakeMed Raleigh were each rated “high performing,” the top designation, based on factors like newborn health outcomes and cesarean rates. With nearly 10,000 births in the past fiscal year, WakeMed continues to lead in maternal services for Wake County.

The WakeMed system was also recognized for its efforts in supporting Black maternal health and promoting breastfeeding, receiving four-star ratings from the state public health department.

UNC Health had five hospitals make the list, including locations in Chapel Hill, Raleigh, and Boone. At UNC Health Rex, a combination of patient-centered initiatives and data-driven practices has led to lower-than-average C-section rates for Black women. UNC Health Nash and UNC Health Rockingham were further distinguished for delivering quality maternity care in underserved regions.

Across the country, only about half of the 817 hospitals evaluated received recognition in this year’s maternity care rankings.
