Cary Police Investigate Vandalism at Hindu Temple
The Cary Police Department is seeking assistance from the public following an incident of vandalism at a local Hindu temple.
Authorities report that early Sunday morning, five individuals were seen on surveillance footage at the Sri Venkateswara Temple on Balaji Place, just off Chapel Hill Road. Around 3 a.m., the group was captured on camera leaving the area in a small sedan. Soon after, a statue located at the front of the temple, known as the Dvarapalaka, was found damaged.
Police have released two video clips showing the individuals near the temple and then running to the car before leaving the scene. Investigators are encouraging anyone with relevant information to contact Cary CrimeStoppers at (919) 460-4636.

Other agenda items, including a major annexation and rezoning proposal near Ferrell Road, a GoCary transit compliance update, and advisory board matters, trailed significantly behind. The results suggest residents were most focused on accountability, transparency, and how the town planned to handle recent leadership changes.

“My 91-year-old father who lives on the corner of old Apex Road and Carrie Parkway has to pay four dollars one way just to go 2 miles to a doctors appointment. I would really appreciate the rezoning of this as it does not seem fair that other people who are going farther don’t have to pay anything.”
“Where do they get $150k for attorney and worse yet, $100k for an employee survey? I understand outside counsel could be needed to represent the interests of the TOWN - not those council members who may have defrauded the town. But a $100K employee survey? Seems more wasteful spending to me.”
“Will we get our money returned!?”
“Citizen Advisory Boards are important IF the Council will pay attention to their recommendations. Cary once had a Community Appearance Commission authorized in state law. With all the growth, Cary desperately needs one now!!!

The Latin name for copper, cuprum (which is the origin of the chemical symbol Cu), comes from the island of Cyprus. Aes Cyprium: The Romans originally referred to the metal as aes Cyprium, meaning "metal of Cyprus". This phrase was shortened to cyprium and eventually corrupted into the Latin word cuprum.
In ancient times, Cyprus was a major source of copper for Mediterranean civilizations and the Roman Empire. The Latin name is derived from the Greek name for the island, Kupros.
