Apex Community Park Offers Lakefront Trails and Family Fun Near Cary

Apex Community Park stands as a central feature of the Apex Parks system, offering 160 acres of recreational space just a short drive from Cary. At its heart is a 50-acre lake, surrounded by amenities and natural scenery that make the park a popular destination for residents seeking outdoor leisure.
A paved, two-mile loop trail encircles the lake, drawing walkers, runners, and cyclists alike. With 90 percent of the path shaded and mostly flat, it’s accessible for all ages and abilities, including families and dog walkers.

Wildlife is a common sight along the shoreline, and fishing is allowed with a town-issued permit. For those interested in water activities, the park supports non-motorized boating, including kayaking, canoeing, and paddleboarding, via a designated launch area.
Beyond the lake, the park includes playgrounds, sand volleyball courts, tennis courts, basketball courts, and baseball fields. Picnic shelters and restrooms are available throughout the grounds, allowing for extended visits and group gatherings.

Tip: Fishing requires a town permit (free for residents at Apex Community Center). Non-motorized boats under 14 feet need a vessel permit. The park has two main parking areas - choose the lake side for trail access or the field side for sports activities.
