Winter Storm Grounds Dozens of Flights at RDU
A powerful winter storm sweeping through the Northeast has caused significant disruptions at Raleigh-Durham International Airport, with dozens of flights canceled or delayed on Friday. Routes connecting to cities like New York, Boston, and Philadelphia were particularly affected due to anticipated heavy snowfall in those regions.
Passengers traveling through RDU responded in various ways, with some arriving before the storm’s impact and others adjusting travel plans to avoid delays. One family shifted their itinerary to fly to Cancun a day earlier from RDU, anticipating issues with their original connecting flight out of New York.
Friday marked one of the busiest travel days of the year, with nearly 48,000 flights scheduled nationwide. The Federal Aviation Administration reported more than 1,400 cancellations across the U.S., especially at major Northeast airports. Additional cancellations at RDU have already been confirmed for Saturday as the storm continues to affect air traffic.
Travelers are advised to check with airlines for the latest updates as weather-related disruptions are expected to persist into the weekend.
