Hello Aruba!
Gateway to White Sands and Caribbean Culture

Welcome to Aruba, an island where desert meets ocean, where Dutch heritage blends with Caribbean warmth, and where turquoise waters meet pristine white-sand beaches.
While there are no direct flights from Raleigh-Durham (RDU) to Aruba (AUA), you can find convenient connecting flights, which are the fastest option and can take approximately 7 hours and 18 minutes. Whether you're drawn by world-class beaches, underwater shipwrecks, or rugged natural parks, Aruba offers year-round sunshine and unforgettable experiences on the "One Happy Island."
Why Visit Aruba?
Eagle Beach: This stunning white-sand beach is consistently ranked among the world's best, offering wide stretches of powdery sand that never feel too crowded. Relax under the iconic divi-divi trees, swim in calm turquoise waters, or simply soak up the Caribbean sun in one of the most picture-perfect settings imaginable.
Arikok National Park: Covering nearly 20% of the island, this rugged park showcases Aruba's wild side with desert landscapes dotted with towering cacti, ancient rock formations with indigenous cave paintings, and the famous Conchi Natural Pool. Hike scenic trails or take a jeep tour through volcanic terrain where adventure meets breathtaking coastal views.
SS Antilla Shipwreck: Just off the coast, this massive 400-foot German freighter—sunk in 1940 during World War II—has become one of the Caribbean's most spectacular dive and snorkel sites. The "Ghost Ship" now rests in shallow waters covered in coral and teeming with marine life, making it perfect for both experienced divers and adventurous snorkelers.
Travel Guides – Here are two comprehensive travel guides to help you plan your trip.
Lonely Planet Aruba Guide: Packed with insider tips on beaches, hiking trails, local restaurants, and cultural experiences beyond the resorts.
Be My Travel Muse - 5-Day Aruba Itinerary: Kristin Addis shares her adventurous side of Aruba with detailed day-by-day plans for outdoor exploration, hidden beaches, and off-the-beaten-path discoveries.

Explore Jordan Lake

Jordan Lake State Recreation Area is an outdoor paradise just 20 minutes from Cary that feels like a world away from city life. This nearly 14,000-acre lake spans Wake and Chatham counties and offers 180 miles of pristine shoreline, making it one of North Carolina's premier destinations for paddling. Whether you're launching your first kayak or you're an experienced paddler, Jordan Lake's calm waters and protected coves create the perfect setting for a peaceful day on the water.
The lake includes nine different access areas scattered around the shoreline, each offering boat ramps and launch points for kayaks, canoes, and paddleboards. Free launching makes it easy to spend the day exploring, and the protected coves provide ideal conditions for beginners and families. Nearly 14 miles of hiking trails wind across the shoreline, giving you a chance to stretch your legs between paddling sessions.
Jordan Lake is home to one of the largest breeding populations of bald eagles in North Carolina, so bring binoculars and keep your eyes on the treetops for wildlife viewing. Sandy swimming beaches at Parker's Creek, Seaforth, and Ebenezer Church let you cool off after paddling, while picnic areas with grills and playgrounds make this a perfect spot for families to spend the entire day.
