Fewer Seasonal Jobs, Scammers Target Desperate Workers

Holiday job opportunities are down significantly this year, driven in part by a shift to e-commerce, which changes the types of workers needed. As a result, scammers are targeting job seekers with fraudulent offers that often include fake checks and suspicious instructions, like buying gift cards to test store employees.

These schemes prey on people looking for extra income to manage holiday expenses. Cybersecurity professionals warn that job seekers should be cautious of any position that involves upfront payments or too-good-to-be-true offers. One red flag is receiving a check before any actual work begins.

Despite the downturn, legitimate seasonal jobs are still available. Amazon, UPS, and Dick’s Sporting Goods are among companies hiring thousands of workers for the holiday period. Walmart, Target, and Macy’s also have seasonal roles open.

Job seekers are encouraged to verify employment opportunities through official company websites and to remain alert to common scam tactics that may appear convincing, especially during the financially stressful holiday season.

Just curious…

Which of these is the biggest red flag in a seasonal job offer? (Choose one)

RDU Sees Early Thanksgiving Rush Amid Record Travel Forecasts

Thanksgiving travel is off to a strong start at Raleigh-Durham International Airport, with many passengers choosing to fly early in hopes of avoiding the expected midweek rush. Based on past travel challenges, flyers are adjusting their plans to get ahead of heavy airport and highway traffic.

AAA projects a record 81.8 million travelers nationwide this holiday, including more than 6 million who will take to the skies. The FAA predicts the busiest Thanksgiving travel period in 15 years, with over 52,000 flights scheduled for Tuesday and more than 153,000 across Tuesday, Wednesday, and Sunday combined.

Although RDU has not issued specific projections for the season, last year’s figures suggest around 400,000 passengers could pass through its terminals. To help ease congestion, the airport encourages travelers to book parking online in advance.
