Public Safety Day Returns to Downtown Cary This Saturday

This Saturday, downtown Cary will host Public Safety Day, an annual event celebrating the town’s first responders and community partners. The event runs from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and will include interactive exhibits, food trucks, and live entertainment along South Academy Street.

The centerpiece of the event is a friendly fitness competition between Cary’s Police and Fire departments, starting at noon in front of the 96.1 BBB stage. Each department will compete in a six-person, relay-style contest that tests physical strength and endurance.

The day also features a touch-a-truck experience with over 30 public safety agencies showcasing vehicles and equipment. Families can meet first responders, learn more about public safety initiatives, and take part in community outreach efforts. A medication drop-off site will also be available for safe disposal of unused pills and patches.

Food trucks will be stationed near the Ivy Ellington House, offering a variety of free and for-purchase options under a large shaded tent. Free Pelican’s Snoballs are available for the first 500 visitors, courtesy of the Cary Fire Department.

Twin Tropical Systems Could Impact North Carolina Next Week

Meteorologists are tracking two tropical waves in the Atlantic and Caribbean with a strong likelihood of becoming named storms—Humberto and Imelda—within the next seven days. As these systems move northwest, they could bring rain and wind impacts to North Carolina and the southeastern U.S., marking the end of a quiet period in tropical activity.

This development comes as the Atlantic hurricane season enters its historically busiest months. The season runs through November 30, and past years have shown that major storms often occur in late September and October.

Residents in North Carolina are urged to stay informed and prepared. Emergency planning includes knowing evacuation routes, reviewing insurance policies, and having a ready supply kit with essentials like water, medications, and flashlights.

Recent flooding and storm events, such as those from Hurricanes Helene and Chantal, serve as reminders of how quickly conditions can change and the importance of proactive readiness. Read Full Report

The Answer to the Cary Spotlight Hook Trivia Question 👇👇👇
While some regions—like parts of Spain or the Balkan Peninsula—may experience arid or semi-arid conditions, they do not meet the strict criteria of a desert, which includes extremely low annual precipitation. Europe’s varied geography features mountains, forests, coastlines, and fertile plains, but it lacks the large-scale arid zones found on every other continent.
