Preserved Piece of Cary History Opens for Public Tours

The Ivey-Ellington House, a Gothic Revival home dating to the 1870s, has reopened in Downtown Cary following a major restoration and relocation effort. Beginning August 6, visitors can join weekly guided tours on Wednesdays to explore the architecture, learn about the home’s former residents, and view a unique inscription revealed during the renovation.

The house is historically significant as one of the few non-religious examples of Gothic Revival architecture in Wake County. Its design reflects how national housing trends and architectural ideas reached rural areas in the late 19th century.

Restoration efforts began after a 2019 development agreement prompted the relocation of the house. The Town of Cary stabilized the structure, selected a new site on South Academy Street, and ensured its preservation through a two-year restoration process.

Today, the Ivey-Ellington House serves as both a historical landmark and an educational site, offering a tangible connection to Cary’s early history.

Atlantic Hurricane Season Picks Up

The Atlantic hurricane season saw an early uptick in activity this weekend as Tropical Storm Dexter developed off the North Carolina coast on Sunday night. Current forecasts show no threat the broader U.S. coastline.

Alongside Dexter, the National Hurricane Center is watching two additional systems. One is near the Florida coast, and the other is a tropical wave that has just moved off the coast of Africa. Both areas are being monitored for possible organization over the next several days.

Dexter’s formation is notable for its timing. It is the fourth named storm of the season and formed nearly two weeks ahead of the historical average date of August 15. Historically, the first Atlantic hurricane forms around August 11. The early development could signal an active period in the weeks ahead. Read Full Report

  • North Carolina FC struck early with an Oalex Anderson goal but couldn’t hold off Louisville City FC, falling 4–1 after three second-half goals.

  • NCFC stays in fourth place in the USL Championship Eastern Conference with 26 points, looking ahead to a home showdown with Tampa Bay Rowdies next weekend.

The Answer to the Cary Spotlight Hook Trivia Question 👇👇👇
In golf, a score of three under par on a single hole is called an albatross, also known as a double eagle in the United States. It is one of the rarest feats in the sport, even harder to achieve than a hole‑in‑one, because it usually requires holing the second shot on a par 5 or making a hole‑in‑one on a par 4. The longest recorded albatross was scored by Michael Wallace at an astounding 715 yards
