Cary Prioritizes Inclusion in Recreational Programs
The Town of Cary now provides sensory bags in its programs as part of a larger initiative to foster inclusive recreational environments. These bags, filled with sensory tools, help participants stay calm, focused, and engaged.
Inclusion Services Cary ensures reasonable accommodations under the ADA for participants with disabilities. These accommodations are free and available to anyone registered for a program, regardless of where they live.
Support includes trained 1:1 aides, adaptive tools, and strategies such as frequent breaks or sign language interpretation. Accommodations are determined on a case-by-case basis and must not fundamentally alter programs or create undue hardship.
Families can request accommodations during the program registration process in RecTrac. A two-week notice is encouraged to allow time for proper coordination.
Cary Deploys First Electric Fire Truck on East Coast
Cary has introduced the Pierce Volterra, the first electric fire truck to be used on the East Coast, into active service. The truck features a zero-emission electric powertrain and a diesel engine for backup during extended operations.
Planning for the new vehicle began in mid-2021, with the truck officially becoming operational in June 2025. Its first use was during a residential fire in Cary, where it performed efficiently and contributed to a quieter, more coordinated response effort.
The Volterra demonstrated strong performance in battery endurance and recharging, completing its first call with minimal power drain. Town officials view this as a key step toward a cleaner and more modern emergency fleet.
The purchase, which cost roughly $1.8 million, aligns with Cary’s goals of adopting innovative technologies to improve both safety and environmental standards.

The Answer to the Cary Spotlight Hook Trivia Question 👇👇👇
Uranus is the only planet in our solar system that rotates on its side. Its axis is tilted at a dramatic 97.77 degrees, meaning it essentially rolls around the Sun like a ball instead of spinning upright like most other planets. Scientists believe this unusual tilt may have been caused by a massive collision with an Earth-sized object long ago. As a result, Uranus experiences extreme seasons, each lasting over 20 years.
