Cary Man Arrested After Road Rage Shooting Injures 5-Year-Old
Charles Edward Stevenson Jr., 20, has been arrested in connection with a road rage shooting in Cary that left a 5-year-old girl injured. Police say the incident occurred during rush hour on U.S. Highway 1, where a confrontation between drivers escalated and resulted in a single gunshot being fired into a family’s vehicle.
The child, who was seated in the back, was struck in the leg. According to her family, the bullet passed through her leg before lodging in a sippy cup. She underwent multiple surgeries and is now facing a lengthy recovery, including physical therapy, ahead of her first year of school.
Stevenson was located in Raleigh and taken into custody Tuesday evening. He faces charges including assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill and discharging a firearm into occupied property. The girl’s family has since launched a GoFundMe to help cover medical expenses and is calling for greater awareness and action around community gun violence. Read Full Report
