Cary Townhome Fire Prompts Evacuation

A fire broke out Friday afternoon at the Pirate’s Cove townhome community in Cary, leading to the evacuation of residents and a large emergency response. The call came in around 1:15 p.m., and fire crews quickly arrived at the 200 block of Bay Drive, where they encountered a townhome filled with smoke.

All residents were safely evacuated before the situation worsened. Despite the rising outdoor temperatures, firefighters contained the fire without any injuries reported among the occupants or responders. Crews remained on-site for several hours to complete overhaul operations, a phase focused on identifying and extinguishing any remaining hot spots.

By late afternoon, Cary officials confirmed that the situation was under control and that all fire units had left the scene. Four people were displaced as a result of the fire, and recovery efforts are now underway. Read Full Story

Courage and NCFC Claim Big Comebacks in Cary

It was a banner weekend at First Horizon Stadium, as Cary’s soccer clubs treated fans to back-to-back comeback victories under the lights.

  • North Carolina FC kicked things off Friday night with a stunning 2-1 win over Louisville City FC, handing the visitors their first loss of the USL Championship season. Finn Sundstrom and Adam Luckhurst both scored on set pieces, with Jake McGuire making five crucial saves to protect the lead.

  • Sundstrom’s goal just before halftime was his first as a professional, while Luckhurst’s game-winner in the 66th minute came off a corner from Louis Perez.

  • On Saturday, the North Carolina Courage stormed back to beat the Houston Dash 2-1, with Jaedyn Shaw and Hannah Betfort both scoring their first goals for the club. The Dash were reduced to 10 players in the 69th minute, opening the door for the Courage to flip the script.

  • With the win, the Courage head into the NWSL’s midseason break on a two-match win streak and a 5-5-3 record, looking sharp heading into summer friendlies.

Cary fans brought the noise, and the home teams delivered—proving once again this town knows how to put on a show.
