$11K Major Toy Theft at Local Game Store
A man used children to help steal nearly $11,000 in Warhammer kits from a Cary hobby shop, part of a broader trend of high-value thefts at local game stores.
Authorities in Cary have charged Matthew Ray White with 12 counts of larceny after he allegedly stole thousands of dollars in Warhammer products from Hangar 18 Hobbies. Police say White brought children with him to distract staff while he took the merchandise, hitting the store multiple times over several months. The stolen items included highly valuable miniatures and kits from popular Warhammer lines.
The case underscores a troubling pattern for local game stores, which increasingly face thefts due to the high resale value of collectibles like Warhammer kits. Unlike big-box retailers, hobby shops often operate with limited staff and minimal security, making them vulnerable to such targeted crimes. Incidents like this can cause significant financial damage and shake the close-knit communities these shops serve. Read Full Story
Join Cary Park’s Nature Challenge for Pollinator Week
Pollinator Week at Downtown Cary Park offers a chance for residents to engage with nature while supporting pollinator health. From June 16 to 22, visitors can take part in a self-guided Bioblitz by picking up a brochure from Guest Services, exploring the park, and using the iNaturalist app (free to download in the Apple App Store or Google Play App Store) to record their observations. A free sticker is available to those who participate.
The initiative is part of a broader national celebration aimed at raising awareness about the role pollinators play in the ecosystem. With its rich variety of plant life and open space, the park serves as a fitting venue for this community science project. Attendees should note that the School BreakOUT! event has been rescheduled from June 16 to June 18 due to weather concerns. Read Full Story

Courage Win Thriller, NCFC Edged Late
It was a dramatic weekend on the pitch for Cary’s professional soccer squads, with the NC Courage pulling off a thrilling win in Los Angeles, while North Carolina FC came up just short in Rhode Island.
Weekend Highlights:
North Carolina Courage 2, Angel City 1: Brianna Pinto scored a clutch stoppage-time goal to steal a road win in LA, giving the Courage their first-ever victory at BMO Stadium. Cortnee Vine opened the scoring just 42 seconds in—the fastest goal in the NWSL this season.
Riley Tiernan equalized for Angel City in the 11th minute, but the Courage’s pressure paid off in the final moments. Manaka Matsukubo notched her fourth straight match with a goal contribution, assisting Vine’s early strike.
Kaleigh Kurtz made history with her 100th consecutive NWSL start for a single club—no other player has done that before.
North Carolina FC 1, Rhode Island FC 2: Rafa Mentzingen found the net in the 35th minute to even things up, but a late penalty from Rhode Island’s Maxi Rodriguez dashed NCFC’s hopes of a point on the road.
Meme of the Day.

The Answer to the Cary Spotlight Hook Trivia Question 👇👇👇
Semantic memory is the type of long-term memory that involves facts, concepts, and general knowledge about the world—like knowing that Paris is the capital of France or that water boils at 100°C. It’s distinct from episodic memory, which stores personal experiences. Semantic memory allows us to understand language, solve problems, and navigate daily life using learned information.
