Cary Man Wins $100K Lottery Prize Ahead of 55th Anniversary
Richard Dooley of Cary won a $100,000 prize in the final second-chance drawing of the Millionaire Maker game, beating odds among more than 4.1 million entries. The North Carolina Lottery notified him by phone, and he claimed his prize—$71,750 after taxes—at the lottery office in Raleigh.
Rather than spend it all, Dooley plans to share his good fortune with his daughter and support several charitable organizations, including the Raleigh Rescue Mission and veterans’ groups. The win comes just two weeks ahead of his 55th wedding anniversary, offering a timely reason to celebrate.
The North Carolina Education Lottery highlights that proceeds from games like these contributed more than $62 million to education programs in Wake County in the past year. Read Full Story
Why Traffic Feels Worse at This Cary Intersection
Motorists navigating the intersection of Tryon Road and Kildaire Farm Road in Cary are growing increasingly frustrated by what they say are mistimed traffic signals. Although some drivers report that only a few cars pass through per cycle on Tryon Road, the Town of Cary said it hasn’t received official complaints.
The town, which operates the intersection's traffic signals despite it being owned by the N.C. Department of Transportation, attributes the experience to several factors. These include high traffic volume—making it one of the town’s three busiest intersections—variable signal patterns based on time of day, and the intersection’s large physical size, which affects perceived timing.
Officials also noted that the area is frequently used as a reroute when accidents occur on nearby highways. Other features, like pedestrian crossings, emergency vehicle pre-emption, and traffic signal prioritization for delayed public transit, also influence light patterns.
The town’s Traffic Management Center monitors such intersections and makes ongoing adjustments. Residents can share concerns directly with the town by emailing [email protected], and are encouraged to use the Travel Safely app for real-time navigation help. The town’s Advanced Traffic Management System is also available. Read Full Story

Soccer Stars Shine in Cary
A high-scoring soccer weekend came to a close with Cary hosting international stars, NCFC securing a dramatic win, and the Courage hitting a bump on the road. Here’s your full recap:
North Carolina FC earned its fourth straight regular season win with a 1-0 victory over Hartford Athletic Friday night. Pedro Dolabella delivered the game-winner in stoppage time, heading in a diagonal ball from Finn Sundstrom, who recorded his first professional assist. Goalkeeper Jake McGuire secured his fourth clean sheet of the season, as NCFC improved to 6W-3L-2D on the year.
The North Carolina Courage fell 3-1 to the Washington Spirit on Sunday afternoon. Manaka Matsukubo continued her strong form, scoring in her third straight match with a brilliant long-range strike. Despite several late chances, the Courage couldn’t find a way back. Assistant coach Nathan Thackeray led the team in place of Head Coach Sean Nahas, who was absent due to a medical issue.
The Soccer Tournament (TST) concluded at WakeMed Soccer Park after six action-packed days of 7v7 competition. The U.S. Women took home the $1 million prize in the women's bracket with a 3-0 win over Bumpy Pitch FC. With 48 men’s teams and 16 women’s teams from 13 countries, TST brought star power and global attention to Cary, including appearances from Carli Lloyd, Luis Nani, and Sergio Agüero.
Cary once again proved why it's the Triangle's home for world-class soccer—from late winners to record crowds and international celebrations.

The Answer to the Cary Spotlight Hook Trivia Question 👇👇👇
Blue light—emitted by phones, tablets, computers, and LED lights—is the most powerful wavelength when it comes to suppressing melatonin, the hormone that regulates your sleep-wake cycle. Exposure to blue light in the evening can confuse your internal clock, making it harder to fall asleep and stay asleep. Using blue light filters or limiting screen time before bed can help protect your sleep quality.
