Community Gathers in Cary for Memorial Day

The Town of Cary gathered at Veterans Freedom Park on Memorial Day to honor the lives of fallen service members through music, community reflection, and a heartfelt ceremony.

Mayor Harold Weinbrecht read an official proclamation recognizing May 26, 2025, as Memorial Day in Cary and thanked longtime Council Member and veteran Jack Smith for leading the program one last time. Residents stood during the Armed Forces Medley as each branch was recognized, and the Cary Town Band closed the event with a musical tribute.

The most stirring moment came from keynote speaker Paul Berry, a 30-year Marine Corps veteran, who shared the story of Sgt. Daniel Vasilian—a young Marine killed in Afghanistan while rescuing fellow soldiers. Berry emphasized that Memorial Day is not a celebration, but a national day of mourning, urging the crowd to remember the personal cost of war.

As rain clouds gathered, attendees were invited to walk the grounds, view a memorial book, and reflect on the freedom earned through sacrifice. Watch The Full Video

Cary Named Best Place to Live in N.C

Cary has been named the #5 Best Place to Live in the United States and the #1 in North Carolina by U.S. News & World Report in its expanded 2025–2026 rankings.

This year's methodology analyzed over 850 cities using metrics like job market strength, quality of life, and affordability—weighted by what Americans said they value most. Cary was praised for offering a strong job market (particularly in the tech sector), excellent schools, and a high standard of living, all while maintaining a welcoming, small-town atmosphere.

Mayor Harold Weinbrecht credited the town’s long-term planning and engaged citizenry for the national recognition. Cary's year of accolades also includes being named the #1 Best Place to Raise a Family in North Carolina by Niche.com, and home to the nation’s top public playground, The Nest at Downtown Cary Park, according to USA Today. With nearly 190,000 residents, Cary continues to earn national praise for its livability, safety, and community-first approach to growth. Read Full Story

Courage Stumble in San Diego
as Canes Stay Alive

Triangle sports fans experienced a weekend of highs and lows, with the Carolina Hurricanes extending their postseason run and the North Carolina Courage seeing their unbeaten streak come to an end on the West Coast. Here’s what happened and what’s coming up:

  • The Carolina Hurricanes avoided elimination Monday night with a 3-0 win over the Florida Panthers in Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Final. Florida still leads the series 3-1, with Game 5 set for Wednesday night at the Lenovo Center.

  • The North Carolina Courage saw their four-match unbeaten streak snapped in a 5-2 loss to the San Diego Wave on Sunday. Goals from Feli Rauch and Manaka Matsukubo kept the Courage competitive early, but a late surge from San Diego proved too much to overcome.

  • North Carolina FC had the weekend off and will return to action Saturday, May 31, in an away match against the Richmond Kickers at City Stadium. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.

With playoff hockey heating up and both soccer clubs in the thick of their seasons, fans across Cary have plenty to keep an eye on this week.

The Answer to the Cary Spotlight Hook Trivia Question 👇👇👇
Fresh cranberries can actually bounce like a ball—a quirky trait that farmers have used for generations to test their ripeness. This surprising ability comes from the four tiny air pockets inside the fruit, which not only make cranberries buoyant but also give them a springy resilience when dropped. In fact, bouncing is still part of the quality-control process during cranberry harvesting.
