GoCary Installs Solar Lights at Bus Stops to Improve Safety and Sustainability

In an effort to improve rider safety and promote sustainability, GoCary has introduced solar-powered lighting at various bus stops throughout Cary. These lights enhance visibility for both riders and drivers during dark hours, making it easier for buses to identify waiting passengers and more comfortable for individuals relying on transit in early mornings or evenings.

The lights are entirely powered by the sun, requiring no external electricity and aligning with the town’s long-term environmental goals. By reducing the carbon footprint of the transit system and improving the rider experience, the project represents a strategic step forward in the modernization of Cary’s public transportation network.

While the rollout is limited to select stops, the initiative signals GoCary’s commitment to integrating clean energy and rider-focused improvements into its evolving transit infrastructure.

Snake Triggers Power Outage for Nearly 10,000 in Durham

An unexpected power outage in Durham late Monday night left 9,920 Duke Energy customers in the dark, the result of a black snake that came into contact with power equipment at a local substation. The incident activated safety protocols designed to limit damage, shutting off electricity just after 11 p.m. as temperatures remained mild during the spring snake season.

The outage lasted approximately two and a half hours before power was restored around 1:30 a.m. Tuesday. While animal-related outages are rare, Duke Energy says its substations are equipped with safeguards to protect both infrastructure and wildlife. However, officials confirmed that they are reviewing the specific point of entry the snake used to determine whether additional improvements can be made.

The outage highlights a growing challenge for utility providers across the Southeast as seasonal wildlife activity intersects with aging and exposed infrastructure. Snakes, like many cold-blooded animals, become more active in warmer months, increasing the likelihood of such encounters. Read Full Article

Cary’s Soccer Teams Return Home for High-Stakes Matches

WakeMed Soccer Park will be buzzing this weekend as North Carolina FC and the North Carolina Courage return home for crucial matches. NCFC hosts Orange County SC on Friday night after splitting results in a demanding three-match stretch. A 2-0 road win in Pittsburgh lifted the team to fifth in the USL Championship’s Eastern Conference, while a tough loss in extra time to Charlotte FC in the U.S. Open Cup midweek could test their depth. Orange County, on the other hand, arrives rested and confident after a win against FC Tulsa, led by new signing Lyam MacKinnon.

The Courage, playing Saturday, have found momentum after a rocky start to the NWSL season. Consecutive wins over Kansas City and Utah have sparked renewed optimism, with Ashley Sanchez scoring in both matches and Ryan Williams generating chances from the flanks.

Goalkeeper Casey Murphy reached 40 career clean sheets last weekend, a notable achievement in league history. Now 10th in the standings, the Courage look to climb higher as they face an Orlando Pride team that has struggled to score recently but remains dangerous late in matches.

Both games offer high stakes and key storylines—NCFC’s test of endurance and Orange County’s bounce-back bid, alongside the Courage’s emerging chemistry against a Pride squad looking to reset their road form. With back-to-back matches under the lights, Cary’s soccer supporters have two chances this weekend to see their hometown teams chase crucial points.

The Answer to the Cary Spotlight Hook Trivia Question 👇👇👇

Vatican City is the smallest country in the world by area, measuring just 0.49 square kilometers (about 0.19 square miles). Nestled entirely within the city of Rome, Italy, it is an independent city-state and the spiritual headquarters of the Roman Catholic Church. Despite its tiny size, Vatican City is home to iconic landmarks such as St. Peter’s Basilica, the Sistine Chapel, and the Vatican Museums. It also serves as the residence of the Pope and operates its own postal system, media, and even a mini railway.
