Firefighter Injured During Cary Townhome Fire
On Sunday evening, firefighters from Cary and Apex responded to an intense blaze at a townhouse on Jamison Woods Lane, just south of N.C. 540. Flames were already shooting from the roof when crews arrived, but residents had safely evacuated the home. Firefighters deployed two ladder trucks and worked for over 30 minutes to bring the fire under control. During the operation, one firefighter was injured and taken to a nearby hospital for treatment, though officials confirmed the injury was minor.
Even after the flames were contained, smoke continued to linger over the neighborhood, and crews remained on site to monitor for any potential flare-ups. Investigators are still working to determine the cause of the fire. As of now, no further details have been released. Read Full Report
Cary’s Spring Daze Blossoms with Local Art and High-Tech Planning
Cary’s Spring Daze Arts & Crafts Festival is set to fill Bond Park with creativity and community spirit on April 26. Featuring 170 juried artists exclusively from North Carolina, the festival highlights a variety of work, from ceramics to printmaking.
Organizers expect over 15,000 visitors, and attendees can browse artist booths, enjoy local food, and experience Earth Day-themed activities. Behind the scenes, Cary uses the ZAPP system to manage artist submissions and help visitors preview artwork and plan their day in advance.
To handle the hundreds of volunteer shifts that bring Spring Daze to life, Cary has adopted Rosterfy, a new tool that simplifies signups, paperwork, and training for community helpers.
With festival season in full swing, Cary’s public works team, volunteers, and residents are working together to ensure another successful event. Visitors are encouraged to check parking and transit options ahead of time and consider alternatives like biking or shuttle services.
Plus, pet owners can look forward to Dog Daze and Pet Expo on May 3, for an extra dash of springtime fun. Read Full Report

Final Four Heartbreak for Duke as Houston Pulls Off Historic Rally

Credit: FanDuel
In one of the most stunning comebacks in Final Four history, the Houston Cougars rallied from a late nine-point deficit to topple Duke 70-67, booking their place in the national championship game. With just over two minutes remaining, Duke appeared destined to face Florida for the title, but Houston's relentless rebounding and clutch shooting turned the tide.
Key moments included Houston’s dominance on the offensive glass, a pivotal Duke turnover, missed free throws, and a critical foul by Cooper Flagg. Houston’s J’Wan Roberts, a less-than-reliable free throw shooter, delivered under pressure, sinking two shots to give Houston the lead.
Duke had one last opportunity, but Flagg’s final shot came up short. Houston secured the rebound, added two more free throws, and watched as Duke’s desperate attempt to tie sailed over the backboard.
The Cougars’ comeback echoed past tournament drama, especially Duke’s prior heartbreaks in San Antonio. For coach Kelvin Sampson, this win marked personal redemption after earlier Final Four losses and last year’s disappointment against Duke.
Houston advances to face Florida in what promises to be an electrifying national championship game. Read Full Report
