NC Snake Catcher Turns Panic Into Peace of Mind — 24/7

When Talena Chavis got her first snake call, it wasn’t from a client — it was personal. While house-sitting in Durham, she encountered two copperheads on the property. She did what most people would: she called for help. But the help wasn’t really there. One company told her they wouldn’t respond unless she was actively staring at the snake, and another said it would take three days. "That’s when I realized," Chavis says, "there was a real gap in this service."

Fast forward eight years, and NC Snake Catcher is now a household name for safe, humane snake removal across North Carolina. What began as a solo venture has grown into a dedicated team of six trained agents operating 24/7, with a clear mission: fight fear with facts.

The business doesn’t just remove snakes — it educates homeowners, offers free 24/7 snake identification (just text a photo to 919-867-0173), and performs preventative yard and crawlspace inspections to reduce future encounters. Whether it’s a copperhead under the propane tank or a black rat snake scaling an oak tree, Chavis and her team respond promptly and professionally.

One Raleigh homeowner shared their Sunday morning relief: “Nearly every service was closed, but Talena was here in 30 minutes. She quickly got the snake in a safe container, gave us great information, and went on her way. Fantastic service!”

Another reviewer recalled a tense episode with a snake taking up residence under their kitchen cabinet. NC Snake Catcher set traps, followed up diligently, and successfully relocated the unwanted guest. “They even refreshed the trap to be more enticing. I hope I never have to go through this again, but if I do, they’ll be my first call!”

Chavis’ approach is grounded in expertise and respect for the animals she handles. In fact, she emphasizes that most snake encounters don’t require panic — just smart action. “The number one time people get bitten is when they try to capture or kill the snake themselves," she explains. "And after decapitation, a copperhead can still bite for up to eight hours.” It's a sobering reminder that DIY removal can be more dangerous than it's worth, especially when treatment costs for snakebites can exceed $18,000.

Beyond their rescue operations, NC Snake Catcher is deeply embedded in the community. They’ve sponsored events for animal-focused nonprofits like Blind Spot Animal Sanctuary and Blazing Trails Bottle Babies, and regularly provide free educational presentations to schools and libraries. During a recent talk at Durham County Regional Library, Chavis busted myths about venomous snakes and emphasized the ecological role these misunderstood creatures play.

“The reason we have such a copperhead issue,” she says, “is because people have killed off their natural predator: the Eastern kingsnake. If killing copperheads worked, I wouldn’t have a job.”

Chavis is quick to remind residents that snakes aren’t invaders — they’re neighbors. Black rat snakes, for example, are excellent rodent control, and copperhead venom is being studied for potential cancer-fighting properties. NC Snake Catcher is working to ensure people see snakes not just as threats, but as an essential part of North Carolina’s ecosystem.

As our region grows and habitats overlap, NC Snake Catcher continues to be the calm voice on the line at any hour of the day (or night). If you spot a snake, remember: text a photo to (919) 867-0173 for free identification — and leave the rest to the professionals.

Crowds and Heat Expected at Dreamville, but Wake County EMS Is Ready

Dorothea Dix Park will be buzzing this weekend as thousands gather for the final Dreamville Festival, but rising temperatures have made safety a top priority.

Wake County EMS has prepared an extensive response plan, with over 75 medical professionals stationed across the park and additional backup from neighboring counties. Medical tents, mobile units, and high observation posts will be in place to respond quickly to any emergencies, while attendees are encouraged to hydrate early and dress for the heat.

The Raleigh Police Department is adding to the effort, deploying 400 public safety personnel each day. Festival organizers are also doing their part, allowing reusable water bottles and setting up hydration stations to help attendees beat the heat.

With a full weekend of music and large crowds expected, officials predict an uptick in medical calls, especially toward the end of each day. However, with thorough preparation, crews say they are well-equipped to keep festivalgoers safe.

Final Four Game Preview:
No. 1 Houston vs No. 1 Duke

Duke and Houston are set for a heavyweight battle in the Final Four (Today at 8:49pm), with the nation’s top offense facing off against its most dominant defense. Duke has dazzled all season with record-breaking efficiency and a versatile five-out offense that stretches opponents to their limits.

Star forward Cooper Flagg, projected to be the No. 1 pick in the upcoming NBA draft, will play a pivotal role, especially as Houston’s defense looks to smother him and force turnovers. Houston, meanwhile, is not only elite defensively but also boasts its best three-point shooting team under Coach Kelvin Sampson, making them a threat on both ends of the floor.

Adding to the drama, Houston guard LJ Cryer has the chance to make history by becoming the first player to win national championships at two different schools. Duke is favored in both betting odds and computer simulations, but Houston’s ability to convert defensive stops into fast-break points could swing the game.

With both teams entering at full strength and high stakes on the line, this matchup promises to deliver the kind of thrilling, high-level basketball that defines March Madness at its best.

Which team do you think will win the 2025 Men’s NCAA Basketball National Championship?

The Answer to the Cary Spotlight Hook Question 👇👇👇

The Black Mamba holds the title of the fastest snake in the world, capable of slithering at speeds up to 12 miles per hour (19 km/h). Native to parts of sub-Saharan Africa, this highly venomous snake is not only known for its incredible speed but also its potent neurotoxic venom and aggressive defense when threatened. Despite its fearsome reputation, the Black Mamba typically avoids human encounters and only strikes when cornered. Its sleek, streamlined body and powerful muscles make it a master of both speed and precision in the wild.
