Grieving Family Calls for Justice After Highway Hit-and-Run

The family of Jose Vasquez is mourning his loss and calling for justice after he was killed in a hit-and-run on I-40 in Raleigh. Vasquez was on his way to work when he stopped to fix a flat tire. While on the shoulder of the highway, he was struck by a vehicle that fled the scene.

Originally from New York, Vasquez had recently relocated to North Carolina with his wife and two daughters, hoping to build a better life. Known for his dedication and kindness, he was regarded by his loved ones as the foundation of the family.

The Raleigh Police Department has yet to release new details in the case. As the investigation continues, the Vasquez family is urging anyone with information to come forward to help bring closure to a tragic loss. Read Full Report

CARY, N.C. — This April, the Bond Park Spillway transforms into a creative hub where art, science, and nature converge in celebration of the North Carolina Science Festival (NC SciFest). The Town of Cary invites residents of all ages to take part in free, hands-on activities that spotlight how we experience the natural world—through sight, sound, texture, and creativity.

The event series, titled Science in the Spillway, kicks off its next sessions on Saturday, April 5, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., with special art activities beginning at 1:30 p.m. The theme for the week, “Look and Listen,” encourages participants to engage with their environment through focused observation and sound exploration.

Throughout the month, programming continues every Wednesday (1–6 p.m.) and Saturday (10 a.m.–5 p.m.), each week introducing a new theme:

  • Natural Patterns – April 9 & 12

  • What Comes From the Earth – April 16 & 19

These sessions are designed for families, students, and curious minds to explore how scientific principles emerge in everyday life, and how nature inspires artistic expression.

Cary’s participation in NC SciFest reflects the town’s growing investment in STEM and environmental education while providing a joyful and accessible experience outdoors.

Crowds Flock to Cary for High-Stakes Pickleball and Community Fun

The Carvana PPA Tour has returned to Cary with the Veolia North Carolina Open, a weeklong tournament that blends professional play with community spirit. Hosted at the Cary Tennis Park, the event runs from Wednesday to Sunday, culminating in Championship Sunday.

Professional athletes from across the country—including Charlotte’s Eric Roddy—are joined by amateurs, with tournaments available at multiple skill levels. The event has become one of the tour’s most anticipated stops, breaking attendance records last year and attracting growing crowds in 2025.

For fans, the appeal is wide-reaching. While the pros offer high-level competition, the event is also a celebration of the sport’s accessibility and popularity, with many local players coming out to watch, learn, and connect with others in the growing pickleball community.

The tournament has further cemented Cary’s reputation as a major East Coast pickleball hub. Ticket information is available on the PPA’s website.

The Answer to the Cary Spotlight Hook Trivia Question 👇👇👇

Rome, the capital of Italy, is famously known as the "Eternal City"—a nickname that reflects its ancient heritage and enduring influence throughout history. Once the heart of the Roman Empire, Rome is a living museum filled with architectural marvels like the Colosseum, Roman Forum, and Pantheon. It is also home to the Vatican City, the center of the Roman Catholic Church. The city’s blend of ancient ruins, Renaissance art, and vibrant street life make it a timeless destination for travelers.
