Cary Construction Worker Killed After Fleeing Electrical Hazard
CARY, N.C. — A construction site on Old Apex Road became the scene of a fatal accident Thursday afternoon, after a chain reaction involving a power line and a passing truck led to the death of a worker.
The incident occurred shortly before 3 p.m. when a dump truck, unloading materials near the intersection of Old Apex Road and Cary Parkway, made contact with overhead power lines. The impact snapped a utility pole and ruptured a transformer, sending sparks to the ground and causing alarm among nearby crew members.
One worker, part of the construction team from the TeraFlex Group, attempted to flee the scene of the electrical hazard by running across the roadway. In the chaos, he was struck by a flatbed truck moving through the work zone. He was rushed to a hospital but did not survive his injuries.
Cary police have classified the incident as a workplace accident. As of Thursday evening, the worker’s identity had not been released, pending notification of family. The incident has raised questions about safety protocols on active construction sites intersecting with live traffic and infrastructure. Read Full Report
Duke Tops UNC in Gritty Sweet 16 Battle, Advances to Elite Eight
The Duke Blue Devils are headed to the Elite Eight after defeating their long-time rival North Carolina, 47–38, in a rare March Madness meeting.
Despite the significance of the matchup, offense was hard to come by on both sides, with both teams shooting under 32% from the field. Duke’s Oluchi Okananwa led the way with a double-double, while Ashlon Jackson chipped in with 10 points.
This marks Duke’s first appearance in the Elite Eight in over a decade, signaling a major milestone for head coach Kara Lawson and the program.
The Blue Devils now prepare for a high-stakes clash against undefeated South Carolina. The Gamecocks, coached by Dawn Staley, will provide a formidable challenge as Duke looks to keep its NCAA Tournament run alive.

Clara Barton, known as the “Angel of the Battlefield” for her tireless work caring for wounded soldiers during the Civil War, went on to found the American Red Cross in 1881. Inspired by her experiences in Europe with the International Red Cross, Barton brought the idea of organized disaster relief to the United States. Under her leadership, the American Red Cross provided aid during natural disasters, wartime emergencies, and peacetime crises, establishing it as a vital humanitarian organization.
