Cary’s The Nest Leads Poll for Best Public Playground in the U.S.

Credit: Downtown Cary Park

Since its debut in late 2023, Downtown Cary Park’s playground, The Nest, has become a standout attraction in the Triangle, known for its imaginative, nature-inspired design and accessibility. Now, it’s gaining national recognition as a finalist for Best Public Playground in the Country in USA Today’s 2025 Readers’ Choice Awards.

The Nest is designed with two distinct play areas, catering to different age groups and abilities. Its most eye-catching feature is a 20-foot climbing structure shaped like two cardinals, offering children an elevated view of the park. On the ground, kids can explore a splash pad, a communication board, large acorns, and fallen logs, making for a diverse and engaging experience.

A key element of The Nest’s appeal is its commitment to inclusivity. The playground is designed with wheelchair-accessible pathways, restrooms, and water fountains, ensuring all visitors can fully enjoy the space.

Currently, The Nest is leading the voting, but with the poll open until April 7 and readers allowed to vote once per day, the rankings could change. Cary residents and supporters are encouraged to cast their votes and help secure the town’s place on the national stage.

The winner will be announced on April 16, and those who want to support The Nest can vote at 10Best.com.

North Carolina Courage Finalize 2025 Roster, Season Opens March 15

The North Carolina Courage have set their 26-player roster ahead of the 2025 National Women’s Soccer League season, meeting the league’s compliance deadline.

While 23 players are active, midfielder Dani Weatherholt and forward Olivia Wingate will start the season on the 45-day injured reserve list, and defender Sydney Collins remains on the season-ending injury list as she continues recovery from an ankle injury suffered during international duty with Canada.

The roster is balanced across all positions, with three goalkeepers, nine defenders, eight midfielders, and six forwards. Among them are key international players, including Felicitas Rauch, Shinomi Koyama, Manaka Matsukubo, and Cortnee Vine, adding international talent to the squad.

Goalkeeper Marisa Jordan, formerly Marisa Bova, has officially changed her last name following her wedding earlier this month.

The Courage begin their 2025 campaign on the road, facing Racing Louisville on March 15 at 5 p.m. ET. Fans can catch the action live and on demand via NWSL+ as the team looks to make a strong start to the season. Read Full Article

The Full Moon, the Blood Moon, and the Crazies: A Lunar Mystery

The 'blood Moon' lunar eclipse. Photo Credit: BBX Sky at Night

Did you get up to witness last night’s Blood Moon, which peaked around 2:07 AM EST? If so, you saw a rare celestial event—the total lunar eclipse that bathed the moon in an eerie red glow, coinciding with Pi Day (3.14).

Throughout history, lunar events like this have been linked to myths of madness, supernatural forces, and even apocalyptic prophecies. While science largely debunks these theories, the belief that full moons and eclipses influence human behavior persists. Police officers and hospital workers often report an uptick in unusual incidents, though studies remain inconclusive.

What we do know is that the Blood Moon is a striking visual reminder of the cosmic dance between Earth, the sun, and the moon. Whether you were watching from your backyard or sleeping soundly through it, this lunar eclipse marked a fascinating moment in the night sky.

Let’s hope the rest of the day doesn’t bring out strange behaviors in people. 🌕🔴

The Answer to the Cary Spotlight Hook Question 👇👇👇

Albert Einstein, the renowned theoretical physicist best known for developing the theory of relativity and the famous equation E=mc², was born on March 14, 1879, in Ulm, Germany.

This date coincides with Pi Day, an annual celebration of the mathematical constant π (pi), observed on March 14 (3/14) to represent the first three significant digits of pi. Pi Day was first celebrated in 1988 by physicist Larry Shaw at the Exploratorium in San Francisco and has since become an international event, often marked by activities such as pie-eating and discussions about mathematics.
