Cary Downtown Farmers Market

Each Saturday, the Cary Downtown Farmers Market transforms into a vibrant hub where residents can connect directly with local farmers, artisans, and food producers. Offering a diverse selection of fresh produce, meats, dairy, and handcrafted goods, the market serves as a cornerstone of the downtown community, promoting sustainable shopping and strengthening ties between consumers and local businesses.
Operating rain or shine, the market welcomes visitors year-round. From April to October, hours run from 8:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., while the winter schedule from November to March shifts to 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. The market is now in its permanent location on Park Street, next to the Downtown Cary Park, where Park Street is temporarily closed each week to create a pedestrian-friendly shopping experience.

Permanent location on Park St., next to the Downtown Cary Park. Each week, we close off Park St. between S. Walker St. and Mayton View Lane. If you need an address for your navigation, you can use 160 E. Park St. Cary, NC.
Beyond fresh food, the market offers a family-friendly atmosphere, with activities such as the Eat-A-Rainbow children's nutrition program, which encourages kids to explore healthy eating through fun challenges and prizes. Well-behaved, leashed dogs are also welcome, making it a perfect outing for the whole family.
For a smooth visit, attendees can check the weekly vendor lineup on the market’s website to see what’s available. Payment options vary, with most vendors accepting cash and credit cards, though cash is preferred to help vendors avoid processing fees.
With its mix of farm-fresh goods, engaging activities, and strong community spirit, the Cary Downtown Farmers Market continues to be a beloved destination for residents and visitors alike. Learn more here

Cary’s Arbor Day Event Offers Free Trees to Residents

Credit: Town of Cary, NC
Cary’s My Tree, Our Tree program is back, inviting residents to celebrate Arbor Day on March 22 by claiming a free native tree while supplies last. The initiative, designed to expand the town’s tree canopy and promote environmental stewardship, allows residents to choose from six different tree species. Registration is required, and each household may receive one tree per event date.
This year introduces the Branching Out – My Tree, Our Tree program, featuring bareroot seedlings that are locally sourced, easier to plant, and more resilient. Unlike previous years, the event will not be drive-up style, encouraging participants to engage with master arborists, watch tree planting demonstrations, and learn about Cary’s reforestation efforts.
The Arbor Day celebration will also include live music, kids' activities, and opportunities to connect with environmental experts offering tips and resources for tree care.
Residents can register for their tree and learn more at carync.gov/mytreeourtree.

Cary Fourth Grader Wins First Place in Statewide Aviation Art Contest

Wake County has reported its first case of bird flu in nearly two years, with an infected owl currently undergoing confirmatory testing. Wildlife experts are not surprised by the development, as the virus tends to spread more easily during winter migration when birds congregate in greater numbers. The case follows a recent positive test in Henderson County and an earlier outbreak at a Hyde County poultry farm.
Despite its prevalence among birds, health officials maintain that the virus poses minimal risk to humans and does not impact food safety. Wildlife agencies continue to track cases as they emerge, particularly during the colder months when migratory activity is at its peak.
