Cary Woman Arrested for Allegedly Starving Six Guinea Pigs
A woman from Cary has been charged with felony animal cruelty after police say she intentionally deprived six guinea pigs of food and water, resulting in their deaths. The Raleigh Police Department alleges that the woman, 43, owned and neglected the animals, which included four adults and two juveniles.
She was taken into custody on Wednesday and given a $10,000 secured bond. Court records indicate she will make her first appearance before a Wake County judge on February 13. The case highlights the serious legal implications of animal neglect in North Carolina, where intentional cruelty carries significant penalties.
AI-Generated Explicit Content Sparks Investigation at NC State
A disturbing case of AI-generated image manipulation has prompted an investigation by North Carolina State University police. More than two dozen sorority members discovered that their images had been altered using artificial intelligence and uploaded to a pornography site. The manipulated content reportedly featured their faces imposed onto explicit images, with the uploader using album titles referencing NC State and including the victims’ names.
A police detective requested records from Google in an attempt to track the individual responsible. Investigators believe the case may fall under North Carolina’s laws against the disclosure of private images, which are typically used in revenge pornography cases.
AI experts note that creating such content has become alarmingly simple due to widely available technology, making it difficult for individuals to protect themselves. Meanwhile, legal systems are still adapting to the challenges posed by deepfake technology.
The university first learned of the incident in October and has since provided support services to affected students through campus organizations. Officials have not disclosed additional details, citing the ongoing investigation. Read Full Report
