White Oak Creek Greenway Reopens Early with Safety Upgrades
Cary residents have reason to celebrate as the White Oak Creek Greenway, a cherished stretch of trail, has reopened ahead of schedule following significant safety and stormwater enhancements. This vital project, which began in mid-November 2024, was originally projected to wrap up by late February 2025. Thanks to efficient work by contractors, the upgrades are now complete, and the greenway is ready for use.

The enhancements focus on improving accessibility and safety for pedestrians and cyclists alike. Key updates include widening the trail on the east side of the tunnel under Cary Parkway and softening its sharp curves, vastly improving sightlines for users entering and exiting the tunnel. Additionally, a stormwater culvert has been repaired, and new safety railings have been installed to bolster security.
These upgrades are part of Cary’s broader initiative to maintain and enhance its extensive greenway network, which includes resurfacing aging trails, repairing drainage systems, and replacing damaged asphalt. By prioritizing such projects, the town continues to promote safer and more enjoyable outdoor spaces for the community.
As winter gives way to spring, residents are encouraged to explore the improved White Oak Creek Greenway and experience firsthand the thoughtful design changes that enhance the greenway experience for everyone.
We’d love to hear your feedback on the recent enhancements to the White Oak Creek Greenway. Select the option that resonates most with you:

Triangle Roads Recover, but Icy Patches Remain After Winter Storm
Following a rare winter storm in the Triangle, the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) has restored traffic flow on most major roads. However, icy spots remain in some shaded areas, prompting crews to focus on secondary streets and subdivisions where refreezing overnight poses risks.
NCDOT’s proactive response included deploying more than 2,000 crews statewide and over 300 locally, treating roads with millions of gallons of brine and thousands of pounds of salt. Sunlight has aided in melting, but lingering black ice remains a concern.
Residents have commended the department’s efforts, particularly given the rarity of harsh winter weather in the region. NCDOT will continue monitoring roadways through the weekend to ensure the safety of all drivers until freezing temperatures subside. Read Full Story

The Answer to the Cary Spotlight Hook Trivia Question 👇👇👇
Uranus is unique among the planets in our solar system because it rotates on its side, with an axial tilt of approximately 98 degrees. This extreme tilt likely resulted from a massive collision with an Earth-sized object early in the planet's history. As a result, Uranus’s poles experience 42 years of continuous sunlight followed by 42 years of darkness during its orbit around the Sun. This unusual orientation also affects its weather patterns and the alignment of its magnetic field.
For more information, visit NASA's Uranus page.
