Wake County Approves Cary EMS Hub to Meet Growing Demand
Wake County has approved the construction of the Cary Main EMS station, a 15,260-square-foot regional hub designed to improve emergency response capabilities in the western part of the county.
The facility, set to be located on Kildaire Farm Road, is part of the county's transition to a regional EMS model, aimed at reducing vehicle downtime and enhancing service efficiency. With six parking bays for emergency vehicles, a vehicle maintenance area, a training center, and other essential spaces, the station will serve as a critical resource for EMS providers in the area. This project, costing $9.83 million, marks the second regional hub under this model, following the successful opening of Garner Main EMS in 2023.
Sustainability is a core focus of the new facility. It will feature a rooftop solar array capable of generating 70,000 kWh annually, alongside electric vehicle charging stations, aligning with Wake Countyโs environmental goals and cost-saving measures.
Construction is expected to begin in early 2025, with completion projected for spring 2026. Once operational, the Cary Main EMS station will bolster emergency care for the growing population, ensuring faster and more agile response times for residents while setting a precedent for eco-friendly public infrastructure. Triangle Hospitals Enforce Visitor Restrictions as Flu and RSV Cases Surge
As respiratory illnesses like flu, RSV, and norovirus rise sharply across the Triangle, hospitals are tightening visitor policies to protect patients and staff. UNC Health Rex, WakeMed, and Duke Health facilities have implemented restrictions, with visitors under age 12 prohibited in most inpatient and pediatric areas. These measures aim to curb the spread of illnesses, particularly in vulnerable populations such as children and those with compromised immune systems.
Hospitals are also requiring staff to wear masks in intensive care and oncology units and encouraging visitors to do the same. Norovirus, a contagious gastrointestinal illness, is adding to the concern, with healthcare professionals anticipating more cases as children return to school. Visitors experiencing flu-like symptoms are urged to stay home, and those planning to visit should check specific hospital policies for the latest updates. Read Full Report

The Answer to the Cary Spotlight Hook Trivia Question ๐๐๐
Maine is the only U.S. state with a single-syllable name. Located in the northeastern corner of the country, Maine is known for its rugged coastline, picturesque lighthouses, and lush forests. It is also famous for its lobster industry and natural beauty, including Acadia National Park. Maine's name is unique and thought to derive from early explorers who referred to it as the "Mainland" to distinguish it from nearby islands.
