$2.7 Million in Sports Gear Donated: A Raleigh Nonprofit’s Impact Grows

Raleigh siblings Andrew and Jocelyn Jung have taken their nonprofit, Donate Sport, to new heights by expanding it to the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where they are currently students. The organization, which started in their family garage, collects new and gently used sports gear to support children in need both locally and globally.

Since its founding, Donate Sport has distributed more than $2.7 million worth of equipment, with its mission gaining traction at UNC. The campus chapter, comprised of over 40 members, reflects the university's strong sports culture and community-minded spirit.

Recently, the organization facilitated a $46,000 donation of sports gear to Boys and Girls Clubs in Durham and Chapel Hill, as well as a shipment of soccer cleats to a school in Kenya. The nonprofit’s growth showcases the power of grassroots initiatives and the drive of young people to make meaningful change.

The organization accepts new and used clothing and equipment for kids and young adults. To find out more about donating, click here: https://www.donatesport.org/donate

Investigation Continues in Cary Teen’s Death in Crosswalk

Cary is mourning the loss of 13-year-old Shiyu "Chloe" Hua, who was fatally struck by a garbage truck while crossing High House Road in a crosswalk the day after Thanksgiving. A memorial of flowers and messages has grown at the site, reflecting the community’s grief and support for her family.

Hua, an eighth-grader at Davis Drive Middle School, was crossing the road with two adults when the incident occurred. Court documents reveal that the truck’s driver, Adrian Holt, made a left turn while Hua and the pedestrians had the right of way. After the initial impact, Holt moved the vehicle forward, resulting in fatal injuries.

Police are analyzing electronic data from the garbage truck and Holt’s phone as part of their investigation. Holt has been charged with misdemeanor death by vehicle. The incident has left a profound impact on the community, which continues to come together to honor Hua’s memory and support her loved ones. Read Full Report
