Holiday Cards Wanted for Elderly Residents Hit by Helene in Western NC
With two months passed since the relentless impact of Helene on western North Carolina, recovery remains a daunting journey for many, especially for the elderly residents of Becky’s Rest Home in Fletcher. Yet, amid the ongoing hardships, one Raleigh woman is determined to make this holiday season a bit more joyful for those whose lives were upended by the storm.
Amanda Mount first encountered the challenges at Becky’s Rest Home in the aftermath of Helene. Spotty communication, a lack of family connections, and limited resources have compounded the difficulties for the residents, many of whom have had few visitors since the disaster. Deeply moved by the need she witnessed, Mount has organized and delivered essential donations—ranging from medical supplies to hygiene products—on multiple occasions, receiving smiles and waves from the front porch each time she arrives.
In her commitment to support the nursing home residents, Mount has embraced them as her extended family, calling them her “22 grandparents.” To make the holidays special, she is rallying the community to help fulfill simple requests like new sheets, blankets, or socks. Her latest effort involves filling residents' mailboxes and rooms with Christmas cards, offering a much-needed reminder that they are not forgotten.
For those inspired to participate, holiday cards can be sent to Becky’s Rest Home, and a wish list for gifts and supplies has been shared online to bring warmth and care to the residents this season.
Address to Send Cards:
Becky’s Rest Home
316 Lower Brush Creek Rd, Fletcher, NC 28732

Multi-Jurisdiction Operation Catches Suspects Soliciting Minors for Sex
In a significant undercover operation spanning several days, law enforcement agencies in Wake Forest arrested eight men accused of attempting to solicit minors for sexual purposes.
The suspects, who range in age from 22 to 51, were caught after they agreed to meet individuals they thought were juveniles. The sting operation was a joint effort between the Wake Forest Police Department and the Wake County Sheriff’s Office, aimed at tackling an alarming rise in child exploitation cases.
Authorities are urging parents to be cautious about their children's activities on social media platforms, where predators often seek to establish contact. The suspects face multiple charges, including attempted statutory rape and solicitation of a child by computer. Read Full Report
