Chaos at NC DMV: System Outages Disrupt Services Statewide
This week’s nearly two-day outage at North Carolina DMV offices caused widespread disruption, as system failures forced people to wait in long lines for essential services. The technical issues, originating from the North Carolina Department of Information Technology’s mainframe, began causing sporadic outages on Wednesday, bringing DMV operations to a halt. Both in-person and online services were affected, leaving people frustrated and anxious about getting routine tasks like license renewals or permit tests completed.
At the Raleigh DMV on Atlantic Avenue, lines stretched on as people sacrificed workdays and school to wait for hours. DMV staff prioritized appointments, which were booked months in advance, making the situation even more difficult for walk-in visitors.
By Thursday afternoon, systems were finally restored, and a few lucky individuals managed to complete their transactions. Still, many left disappointed, faced with the prospect of trying again another day. The outage highlighted the DMV’s vulnerabilities and the ripple effect these technical disruptions can have on residents. Read Full Report

Grow with Good Hope Farm: November Volunteer Workday
Good Hope Farm, a cornerstone of Cary's local food system, invites volunteers to join their monthly workday on November 16 from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m. Volunteers will engage in tasks such as weeding, watering, and general garden upkeep to support the farm’s operations. As an urban community farm, Good Hope Farm connects Cary’s agricultural heritage with a forward-thinking approach by providing affordable land for new farmers and strengthening ties between residents and local food.
Participants should come prepared with closed-toe shoes, water bottles, and optional protective gear like hats and sunscreen. Due to the nature of the work, volunteers under 14 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. As the farm is only accessible to the public during events, the workday offers a unique opportunity to get hands-on experience with organic farming. Registration is required to ensure a well-coordinated and safe event for all attendees. Learn more | Directions
