Wake County Sheriff’s Office Issues Crypto Scam Warning

The Wake County Sheriff’s Office has issued a warning about a scam targeting residents with demands for cryptocurrency payments. Impersonating deputies, scammers use high-pressure tactics to claim that Bitcoin payments are required to clear up legal matters, such as outstanding warrants or missed jury duty. To add credibility, these fraudsters spoof caller IDs, making it seem as if the calls originate from the Sheriff’s Office.

Officials stress that legitimate government offices will never request cryptocurrency or gift cards for payments. Cryptocurrency transactions are irreversible and commonly exploited by scammers to steal money without the possibility of recovery. Red flags to watch out for include urgent demands for digital payments, manipulated caller IDs, and requests for transaction receipts or private keys.

Residents are advised to remain cautious, never share sensitive financial details, and independently verify suspicious claims by contacting the Sheriff’s Office. NC Courage Season Ends in Hard-Fought Quarterfinal Loss

The North Carolina Courage's season concluded in the NWSL Quarterfinals after a 1-0 loss to the Kansas City Current. An early goal from Temwa Chawinga set the tone, despite North Carolina's commanding 65% possession and 85% passing accuracy.

The Courage fought back, creating several chances, including a near miss from Aline Gomes and a disallowed goal attempt by Kerolin. Defensively, Kaleigh Kurtz made crucial plays to keep the deficit manageable.

However, Kansas City's goalkeeper denied every effort from North Carolina, sealing the Courage's playoff fate. The team closes out their season having made six playoff appearances in seven years, ready to regroup and look ahead. Read Full Report 

Food Lion Reopens After Cyberattack Sparks Payment System Outages

Ahold Delhaize USA, the parent company of Food Lion, confirmed a significant cyberattack over the weekend, leading to widespread disruptions in payment systems and affecting various services, including online ordering and pharmacies. The company took immediate steps to mitigate the breach, taking some systems offline and working closely with cybersecurity teams to prevent further damage.

The attack caused a wave of frustration among customers who struggled to make purchases or place orders. By Friday afternoon, Food Lion announced that stores were once again accepting all forms of payment, although ongoing efforts were required to address lingering network issues. Ahold Delhaize emphasized that all stores are open, and measures are being taken to further secure their digital infrastructure.
