Glaucoma: The Silent Threat Millions Don’t Know They Have
Glaucoma is a progressive eye disease that develops silently, often without early symptoms, and can lead to irreversible blindness if untreated. It occurs when fluid buildup increases pressure inside the eye, damaging the optic nerve, which transmits visual information to the brain.
About 3 million Americans are affected, though half are unaware they have the condition. Open-angle glaucoma, the most common form, progresses gradually, while the less common angle-closure glaucoma can cause sudden symptoms, such as severe eye pain or blurred vision, requiring immediate medical attention.
Routine eye exams are essential for early detection, especially for individuals over 40 and critical after 60, when risk increases. Other high-risk groups include people with chronic conditions like diabetes or hypertension, those with a family history of glaucoma, and individuals who smoke. Testing includes monitoring eye pressure, optic nerve health, and peripheral vision to catch the disease before irreversible damage occurs.
Treatment options focus on lowering eye pressure to slow progression and preserve vision. Medicated eye drops are the first line of defense, though laser surgery and micro-invasive glaucoma surgeries (MIGS) offer effective alternatives, especially when drops become inconvenient or ineffective. While glaucoma cannot be reversed, timely diagnosis and proper management can protect sight and enhance quality of life. Read Full Report
Boiling Frogs and Bold Choices: Adam Grant on the Art of Rethinking
In his thought-provoking TED Talk, Adam Grant examines why people are slow to respond to crises, such as pandemics or climate change, despite early warnings. He argues that our reluctance to rethink established beliefs and routines often keeps us stuck on narrow paths. Through anecdotes from his own life—like a close call on a hike in Panama and a leap of faith into competitive diving—Grant illustrates how deeply ingrained habits and identities can lead to tunnel vision.
Grant’s message is clear: staying open to change is essential for navigating an unpredictable world. His research highlights the power of reevaluating assumptions and embracing new perspectives, even when it feels uncomfortable. For viewers who think they understand the tale of the frog in hot water, Grant promises a surprising new lesson waiting at the end of his talk.
Just curious…

Frozen Waffles Recalled Over Potential Listeria Contamination
TreeHouse Foods has issued a recall for a range of frozen waffle products, including those sold under the Kodiak Cakes brand and store labels at Publix, Food Lion, Walmart, and Target, due to potential listeria contamination.
Distributed across the U.S. and Canada, the affected products should be discarded or returned for a refund, even though no illnesses have been reported so far. Listeria, a bacteria found in food processing environments, can cause listeriosis, a serious foodborne illness that poses the highest risk to older adults, pregnant women, and individuals with weakened immune systems.
This recall follows a series of recent listeria-related incidents, including the removal of millions of pounds of Boar’s Head and BrucePac meat products.
Listeriosis symptoms can range from fever and fatigue to more severe conditions like seizures and confusion. Health officials stress the importance of regular food safety checks to prevent potential exposure and encourage consumers to stay informed about ongoing recalls. Read Full Report
