NC 211 Call Center in Cary Provides Lifeline During Helene Recovery
The 211 call center in Cary has become a key component of North Carolina’s response to Tropical Storm Helene. Operating 24/7, the team of 27 operators is fielding a flood of calls from residents across the state, with nearly 12,000 calls related to the storm so far. Their efforts go beyond storm recovery logistics, as they assist families searching for missing loved ones and serve as a communication link for emergency response teams.
Despite a 97% service rate, officials acknowledge the high call volume and ask residents for patience as emergency responders continue to work in the field. With an average call wait time of just over four minutes, the 211 center strives to provide not only information but also a sense of hope and connection during this challenging time.
As communities recover from the impact of Helene, the 211 operators remain dedicated to offering the support North Carolinians need, ensuring that no one is left without guidance or comfort in the wake of the storm. Read Full Report.
Unbeaten Streak Hits 21 as Courage Battle Angel City to a Draw
On October 12, the North Carolina Courage extended their unbeaten streak at home to 21 matches, drawing 1-1 with Angel City FC in a dramatic contest at WakeMed Soccer Park. Despite dominating the first half with superior possession and multiple chances, the Courage couldn’t capitalize. Angel City responded with intensity in the second half, and Christen Press gave them a late lead with a goal deep into stoppage time.
Yet, the Courage kept fighting until the final moments, with Olivia Wingate scoring a last-ditch equalizer off an assist from Denise O’Sullivan, delighting the 7,037 fans in attendance. Though the draw confirms the Courage’s fifth-place finish and a road game for the NWSL Quarterfinals, the team remains confident, backed by their impressive record of comeback performances and goals from substitutes.
North Carolina now looks to maintain their momentum, heading to Bay FC for their final regular season game on October 19. On November 2, they return home to face Washington with hopes of tying the NWSL’s longest home unbeaten streak.

Pablo Picasso, a renowned Spanish painter, is credited with co-founding the Cubist movement, one of the most influential art movements of the 20th century. His works, including Les Demoiselles d'Avignon and Guernica, remain iconic in the art world, showcasing his creative genius across painting, sculpture, and ceramics.
