Hurricane Helene Becomes One of the Deadliest U.S. Storms in Recent History

Hurricane Helene, which made landfall in Florida as a Category 4 storm on September 26, has become one of the deadliest storms in modern U.S. history.

The storm has claimed over 200 lives across six Southeastern states, ranking it as the third-deadliest hurricane of the 21st century. Torrential rains, storm surges, and flooding devastated regions from Florida to North Carolina, with Asheville experiencing nearly 14 inches of rainfall over just a few days.

The storm caused widespread destruction, knocking out power, damaging infrastructure, and displacing residents across the southern Appalachians. As rescue operations continue, scientists warn that hurricanes like Helene are becoming more intense due to rising global temperatures, with climate change likely to exacerbate future storm severity. Simpson Replaces Canceled Asheville Concert with Cary Benefit for Hurricane Victims

Sturgill Simpson’s planned concert in Asheville on October 21st was canceled due to the catastrophic flooding caused by Hurricane Helene, but the country music star isn’t letting the opportunity to help pass by.
