Tropical Storm Helene Floods Western NC, Closes Roads and Prompts Rescues
Tropical Storm Helene has brought catastrophic flooding to the mountains of western North Carolina, causing widespread road closures, power outages, and at least two confirmed fatalities.
The storm, which weakened from a hurricane earlier in the week, began affecting the Asheville region on Wednesday night. By Friday, the North Carolina Department of Transportation advised that all roads in the area be considered closed due to rising floodwaters. With additional storms expected, forecasters predict over a foot of rain in the coming days.
Governor Roy Cooper has urged residents to stay off the roads and avoid floodwaters, though reports indicate that some drivers are still risking dangerous conditions. To aid in rescue efforts, 175 National Guard troops and several state rescue teams have been deployed to assist residents stranded by the storm. As the region braces for more rain, state officials are warning of continued risks. Read Full Report

The Answer to the Cary Spotlight Hook Trivia Question 👇👇👇
Geckos are known for their unique ability to clean their eyes using their long tongues. Unlike most animals, geckos do not have eyelids, so their eyes are exposed to dust and debris. To keep their vision clear, they use their tongues to lick and clean the transparent scales, known as spectacles, that cover their eyes. This adaptation allows them to maintain clear vision, which is crucial for their survival in the wild.
For more information about geckos and their fascinating adaptations, you can visit the San Diego Zoo’s page on geckos.
