Cary Resident’s Jackhammering of Trail Entrance Leads to Courtroom Conflict
In the Beechtree neighborhood of Cary, tensions have flared over a local trail entrance, leading to a legal dispute between homeowner Keith Myers and his neighbors. Myers, who owns two properties along the trail, recently used a jackhammer to tear up part of the path, claiming the land belongs to him.
However, the neighborhood homeowner’s association (HOA) argues that an easement granted over 30 years ago gives all residents the right to use the trail. The conflict has gained attention after a video of the incident was posted online, highlighting the growing feud between Myers and the community.
The Pearthree family, long-time residents of the neighborhood, are at the heart of the dispute, having cherished the trail for decades. While Cary officials have clarified that they hold a sewer easement on part of the land, they consider the pedestrian access issue a private matter for the courts to resolve.
With an injunction in place to prevent Myers from obstructing the trail, both sides are preparing for legal action. If the case isn’t resolved in the coming weeks, it could go to a jury trial in November, with the outcome potentially setting a precedent for property rights and public access in the neighborhood. Florida Braces for Category 4 Helene, North Carolina to Feel Impacts
Hurricane Helene, currently near the Yucatan Peninsula, is rapidly intensifying and is expected to make landfall in Florida as a Category 4 storm on Thursday. With sustained winds of 85 miles per hour, the storm’s outer bands are already affecting areas far from its center.
In North Carolina, the storm will bring significant rainfall, especially in the western regions, where up to a foot of rain is expected. Central North Carolina will see more moderate rainfall and wind gusts up to 40 miles per hour, with isolated severe storms possible on Friday. Helene will move away from the state by Saturday, allowing for drier weekend conditions. Read Full Story

Wiener Dog Races and German Beers: Triangle Oktoberfest Returns for a Cause
As autumn approaches, Triangle Oktoberfest (Friday 10/4 and Saturday 10/5) returns to the Koka Booth Amphitheater in Cary, marking its 10th year of celebrating German culture while giving back to the local community. Hosted by the Rotary Clubs of Cary MacGregor and Apex Sunrise, the event has become North Carolina’s largest celebration of German heritage. It features an array of exciting activities, including live music, local and German beers, wiener dog racing, and traditional competitions like the stein hoist.
Beyond the fun, Triangle Oktoberfest is a charity-driven event, raising significant funds for local causes each year. This year, the Miracle League of the Triangle, an organization dedicated to providing children with special needs the opportunity to play baseball, has been selected as the primary beneficiary. Other beneficiaries from past events include Meg's Smile Foundation, the US Veterans Corps, and Western Wake Crisis Ministry.

The Answer to the Cary Spotlight Hook Trivia Question 👇👇👇
The peregrine falcon holds the title for the fastest flying bird, reaching diving speeds of over 200 miles per hour. This remarkable speed occurs during its hunting stoop, a high-speed dive used to catch prey mid-air. The peregrine falcon's streamlined body and powerful wings allow it to achieve such incredible speeds, making it not only the fastest bird but also the fastest animal on the planet when in a dive.
For more information about peregrine falcons and their extraordinary abilities, you can visit the Audubon Society's page on peregrine falcons.
