NC Courage Concede Two Late Goals in 2-1 Defeat

The North Carolina Courage fell 2-1 to Racing Louisville FC in a match that saw the visitors take the lead just before halftime but concede two late goals to lose.

Brianna Pinto scored for North Carolina in the 44th minute after a well-worked play by Ashley Sanchez. Racing Louisville responded with growing pressure in the second half, finally breaking through in the 80th minute when Emma Sears capitalized on a defensive mistake to equalize.

A handball in stoppage time handed Louisville a penalty, which Bethany Balcer converted to seal the victory. Despite a late offensive push from North Carolina, including a shot that hit the crossbar, the Courage couldn’t find the equalizer. With the loss, North Carolina holds 32 points and remains in fifth place with five matches left to play.

Election Countdown:
Early Voting in Wake County

With Election Day just 42 days away on November 5, 2024, many voters in Wake County may find themselves wondering about the process of registering and casting their vote during Early Voting. Fortunately, for those who missed the official voter registration deadline, same-day registration is still available at Early Voting locations, with a few exceptions. However, voters should be aware that same-day registration does not apply during second primaries.

Wake County residents can vote at any Early Voting location within the county. For those who need to update their name or address, Early Voting provides the opportunity to make these changes before casting their vote. It is important to note, however, that changing one’s party affiliation is not allowed during this period.

To ensure their registration is up to date, individuals can easily check their voter status online before heading to the polls. For voters who face physical challenges entering the voting site, curbside voting is available at all Early Voting locations. Eligible voters, such as those with mobility issues or other physical disabilities, can take advantage of this service by parking in designated areas near the site entrance. Election officials will monitor these areas throughout the day to assist voters directly from their vehicles.

For those who have recently moved, the ballot they receive will depend on when they changed their address. If the move occurred more than 30 days before Election Day, voters will be given the ballot style for their new address. Otherwise, they will receive a ballot reflecting their previous residence.

While many are concerned about long lines at Early Voting sites, lines typically remain short in the initial days of the voting period. The heaviest traffic is generally observed in the final three days. Despite rumors to the contrary, every vote cast during Early Voting is securely counted on Election Day and included alongside Election Day ballots. Early voting: 17Oct -2Nov. Early Voting FAQs

Triangle Expressway Expansion: What to Expect with the Latest Opening

The North Carolina Turnpike Authority is opening the latest section of the Triangle Expressway on September 25, providing improved connectivity across Southern Wake County.

This phase, known as Complete 540 Phase 1, runs from the N.C. 55 Bypass in Apex to the I-40/I-42 interchange in Garner. While tolls will apply to the new stretch, NC Quick Pass holders can expect discounted rates.

Most of the interchanges will open as scheduled, though the Old Stage Road and eastbound Bells Lake Road exits will remain under construction until November 2024.

Phase 2 of the project, which is already under construction, will extend the expressway another 10 miles, eventually completing a full 540 loop around the Triangle by late 2028. Read Full Report.

The Answer to the Cary Spotlight Hook Trivia Question 👇👇👇

The Arctic ground squirrel is the only mammal known to survive being frozen. During its hibernation in the harsh Arctic winters, its body temperature can drop below freezing, and its heart rate slows dramatically. This remarkable adaptation allows the squirrel to endure subzero temperatures, effectively pausing its metabolism until warmer conditions return.

Once spring arrives, the Arctic ground squirrel thaws and resumes normal activity, demonstrating one of the most extreme survival strategies in the animal kingdom.

For more information about the Arctic ground squirrel and its unique hibernation abilities, you can visit the National Geographic page on Arctic ground squirrels.
